Rinda, the cake is darling. When I was young my Mom always had a canister of home-made hot cocoa mix on the counter, we spent lots of time out in the snow in the wintertime and it was always sooo good.

[Hangtown Farms]

A gift from one of my girls.

We live in one of the snowbelt areas and it is not unusual to get quite a bit of snow. But overnight Sunday to Monday we got 18" - and it's not even Thanksgiving yet!! The snow was just below my knees, thank goodness for Baffin boots and Carharts. My coops, hive, driveway, etc were a mess. Birds stayed inside for a whole day as I did not have time to get into the pen and shovel.

It was very pretty, though.

Last year was the third year and the lowest rainfall year since records have been kept in California. Wells are going dry, those with money have to spend about 100,000 to drill their wells deeper. Some Cities are trucking in water. One widow from our church had her well go dry and a neighbor brought her a tanker truck of water so she would have water for dishes and flushing.

It looks like this year, the fourth, is also shaping up to be dry. It will take several normal rain years to get the water storage back up.

Hoping for a good rain and snow

yes. it is mild but raining hard up here. its probably snowing on Carson Pass at 8600 feet but not Donner or Echo Summit

Here's my work ethic for the day- stick a fork in me I'm DONE. LAST birthday cake of the year! It's a marathon from September until November with 5 birthdays. I'm the loner in May. It's Pinkie Pie from My Little Pony in case you can't tell. And don't tell me if you can't tell.

While I waited for the cake to bake and cool I mixed up two big batches of hot chocolate mix (those are gallon containers!) and new batches of Taco Seasoning and Chili Seasoning. With a big family I get REALLY tired of packets or pulling every spice out for every meal. These make it so much easier!

I am playing with french toast this morning. I am waiting for Michael to get up and help me with a syrup "pour" shot. Those are really hard to do without a helper.

This definitely falls into the "too much time on my hands" food category!

p.s. it is stuffed with cream cheese and pumpkin pie spice.

Oh, and we have a new grandson this morning via Michael's daughter.
