Posts are all in and cement is setting. We put in horizontal supports to have something else to attach the wire to. I am busy cutting 25 foot rolls of 2 ' hardware cloth down the center to make 1 foot sections to staple at the bottom of the run to keep babies in. I don't plan on babies but there is the broody element to consider.

I am getting really excited about getting my old chickens back, naming my new ones, and writing blog posts about them. I miss that so much. In addition to the two girls Kelly is giving me, I bought three pullets, an olive egger, a cream Legbar, and a golden cuckoo Marans. That will give me seven which is probably enough. Hopefully I will have five layers out of the bunch. My egg basket should be beautifully colored. I am almost as excited as I was when I first got chickens. Everything seems so manageable this way.We are trying to do it right the first time and stop coop renovations. I bought some cute things from a local vintage shop to put in the run for photos ops. I would like to plant things around the coop to have some vegetation and flowers. they wil have plums and walnuts falling into the run through the netting.

I found a gallon of "Oops" waterproofing solid color stain in off white at Home Depot today. great bargain! I started painting the trim white to match the windows. I really want the body of the coop to be dark barn red. Not sure how Michael will feel about that. He likes them to match the house. I have had coop envy for a little red chicken barn for years. I think I need to scratch that itch.

Pictures of the progress tomorrow. Here's my 50 feet of hardware cloth 1/2 inch at a time!

How exciting. I can't wait to see it finished! My hubby is building me a brooder/grow coop/quarantine pen, 16 ft x 5 ft with 10 holes. We have it about half done. It's what he works on when his mind is numb from job search... he's so sweet trying to make my life easier while he has time! It has oops paint too- the same stuff I painted the benches with. The dividers in each section are removable so I can make each pen as large or small as I need. He did a pretty good job thinking it through! Your cut wire made me think to share it- We were at the same spot cutting hardware cloth for the upper ventilation and the doors. We hand cut the door screening but used a grinder to go down the length for the ventilation.

In other news- we sold the black tri today! She flies home to Texas on Tuesday. But the buyer for Sofie, the red merle (originally we were calling her Bella) has now backed out- so we still have one pup left to sell.

Oh she is gorgeous. Hope you got to keep the deposit.

Yes everything I advertise with says $100 nonrefundable deposit. But I'm still sad for her, the lady who picked her out was one of the first to look at the litter, and has been waiting for some money that was due to her- but it just hasn't come yet. I gave her an extra week so now it's time to move on.

Kelly, that is the main reason I haven't had a dog since 1989- buying the dog is the cheap part. When I go through Petsmart and see what dog food costs, I have a stroke. My friend takes her elderly dog in once a year for the rabies shot, stool check, exam, heartworm test etc.it's over $ 400. up front.
