Stella's Social Club

I inspected my hives today and removed the empty super/queen excluder, and I found where all of my honey went. The bees packed it in their hive, which is fine, they will need it for winter. I only pulled a few frames to see eggs, so I know the queen is laying well in both hives. And pulled some of the outer frames to see how their stores look for winter. It's all looking good, and I'm still surprised at how high the population is in the main hive.

I'm so happy that everything looks good for going into winter. With some luck, I'll have 2 highly productive hives next year.

Good news Kelly!

Mary how much longer to you have to "rough it," in Tucker's luxurious motor home?

2-3 weeks Diva! Maybe less if the flooring jerk can work us in. He is doing the living room, dining room and kitchen on Monday then the bedrooms and hallway after the cabinets are done and the bathrooms are ready. Here they are now.

My bathroom. Got a new tub today!

Dining room and kitchen from living room. Step got built today! Yeah, no more falls, hopefully.

Moulding color. It is bold but we love it. Totally works better with the cabinets than the white-white. Yuck!

Kitchen

My cabinet doors for the linen closet. Just leaning against the wall. The hardware is dark. I think it is going to look gorgeous!

Tucker looking for KC. Note the crack in the concrete floor. It had to be ground down for the laminate. There is another one going the opposite direction, all the way across the room

I had to look that up! Why!

Where are you going?

I needed to mark my spot. I'm old and it can be hard to remember where I left off. Good garden o' peas, when you follow so many threads you can't keep up.

OMG yesterday was a nightmare day in Remodel Land.

Cabinets started going in and instead of white they looked pale yellow in comparison to the white crown moulding and door trim. All day it was getting a little more bothersome for me and Michael. The cabinet guy says it will be ok once the cabinets are done, the countertops are in and all the appliances installed. We are not so sure. Michael says in comparison to the white crown moulding, the cabinets look like "cigarette teeth."

Then, late in the afternoon, the flooring guy showed up unannounced to prep the living room floor. He and his brother started shoving our leather couch and love seat up into the dining room. They used the furniture to shove buckets and paint cans out of their way as well as the table saw my cabinet guy was using. When Johnny objected and asked them to give him a minute to move the furniture into the garage they got really aggressive. Johnny got dragged out into the garage while holding onto the end of the sofa and Russ dropped his end to the floor nearly casing Johhn to buckle under the weight of the other end. Lots of yelling in languages I don't speak. Cabinet guy packed up and left without saying anything to us. I was going to fire the flooring contractor immediately but I called my cabinet guy and he said he would just work around the other guy's schedule. He said he wasn't concerned for himself but he was really upset to see how he treated me, my home and my belongings. Johnny agreed. he said just let him get his stuff done and get the hell out. Firing him and trying to get someone else at this late date would derail everyone. Flooring guy is Russian and Johnny is half Italian, half Ukrainian or Chechnyan. Russ made it clear that he didn't like those people. It was awful. This remodel has been a United Nations affairs from the beginning with all the trades working well together, always being considerate of us! Until yesterday. I am still upset over what happened yesterday. I am also worried that in his haste to get done and out he will damage the cabinets or new walls. He is just a big bully and I hate bullies. Anyway, sorry for the rant.

Back to the paint. We decided last night after everyone left that we are going to have all the white white moulding repainted in a darker color, complementary to the color on the cabinets and walls. It will delay the end of the project and cost us more money but we really hate the white with the cabinets. The paint store opened at 5:30 this morning and I was there to buy the new paint. I will be breaking the news to the painter, Pablo, when he arrives in a few minutes. Wish me luck!

No kidding!

I'm not as nice as Mary, I would have told him to get the hell out of my house!

I once did this with a furnace guy. No way is anyone going to boss me around in my own home. They called the boss right away and the offensive jerk was gone from my house.

Keep in mind that many who work for themselves do so because they can't get along with others. My son in law is one such person. He's a good worker but he can't follow directions. I would not hire him.

Regardless remember YOU'RE paying them. YOU'RE doing them a favor by giving them a job. THEY work for YOU!

A huge improvement already Mary! I love the ceiling in the living room without all that nasty cork! It makes the beams stand out nicely now. Countertops all the same height looks much better as well. I've never seen dark crown moulding, but it looks great.

Tucker looks lost without all his stuff in there. I hope he will cross hardwood, or he will be confined to the bedrooms!
