Yesterday was a massive coop cleaning day on both coops. I cleaned them out, swept the dust covered cobwebs, swept out the floor, cleaned the nest boxes and put clean shavings down. It was exhausting since I have a large coop and a medium sized coop. It feels good to have it all done, and ready for *hopefully* some wet weather.

Since I am a lukewarm duster at best, I use the leaf blower and just give the place a good going over with that (windows and doors open and a hat, glasses and dust mask in place!). Works great.

Good idea on the leaf blower, I'll have to use it sometime.

I got a first egg from one of my welsummer pullets today. Nice color too. I'll get a picture of it in the morning. Looks like I'll be home all day with a sick kid. I have to take him to the doctor, I have a suspicion that he has strep throat.

The doctor confirmed.......strep throat. Lovely. I hope I don't get it, as I don't have time to be sick.

I was bored, so I went out to feed the bees. Just stood there for a while (with my suit on) and stared down into the beehive. One hauled away a dead yellowjacket that made it's way into the hive. I took the opportunity while I had my suit on to empty the yellowjacket trap. It was full, so now maybe it will catch some more.

I keep waiting for Mary to put up some more pictures.

Do yellow jackets give anything back besides stings? I've never noticed them do anything other than survey the property and outside of house seeking new places to build a nest.

Nope, they are not pollinators. They hang out by the hive trying to rob it of weak bees. Most of the bad rap that honey bees get is from yellow jackets that were mistaken as honey bees. They are nasty and aggressive, honey bees are not.

Yes, yellow jackets will attack you if you get too close to them.

Nasty buggers. I've had them build a hive in the piles of grass clippings. They will follow you pretty far.

I had them in the clippings and sprayed them (at night) but not much help. Later I noticed the nest torn up. I figure a skunk got to them.

So why I came here.

I volunteer at a school and we have two cake mixes. "Commodities" they're called. Large boxes. The chocolate tastes okay I suppose but doesn't rise well. The white is just awful.

Anyone got an idea of how to improve the rise and tastes of these cake mixes. They only call for water. I've added eggs but not much help.

I've searched the internet and gotten some ideas but could use more if anyone has any.

Try adding some vanilla to the white cake--and a teaspoon of baking powder.

For the chocolate, add a teaspoon of baking powder. It sounds like the leavening has gone out of date.

No pictures. I am distressed by the sheer ugliness of my flooring. I like the laminate itself but the steps are disgusting. The moldings look like the horrible mobile home moldings and I can't get past it. I just made a $5,000.00 mistake. I am thinking of ripping it out and putting in cheap tile and carpeting. I can't live with this hideous mess. 30 years with ex in the mobile home business has given me the willies about nasty molding to cover up seams and things. Hate this floor with a passion! Yuck. Have been crying and cursing all day. Plus, the Russian bully was brutal and in my face yelling and demeaning me. He kept telling me that I was making too big of a deal out of it. I finally told him that this is my "f" ing house and I will feel anyway I want to in it. What an *** he is. I could have done better with my eyes closed.
