A beauty,, one to challenge the roosters in doing their job.

No roosters here Jake. Just secure fencing on the run and flight netting over the top. If we tried to free range here, we would be chickenless in no time! I am still amazed that we were able to free range when we first moved to Auburn. That property had almost no trees and I think that made the difference. The farmhouse and this one have lots of hawk habitats. Some days I see three hawks in the neighbor's white birch tree. Have seen two at one time sitting on branches of the walnut tree directly over our chicken run. The girls are not fazed by the hawks. The were scratching around in the wet dirt yesterday with the hawk sitting right there on the deck railing.

Looks delicious!

Free range is hard here too, besides Hawks also have Great Horned Owls and Bald Eagles. And on the ground Coyotes and Foxes, so I have raised pens. I may swap with my son for a shed he has and move it here with a small covered run. I love to watch them working over a lawn. The only way I can do it is to be with them and watching over them.

I love to see chickens free ranging all over the place. Wish it was safe here.
