Rinda, really liked your honey video. Bet all that equipment costs a bundle on top of the outdoor arrangements for hives of bees. Sorry I don't know the correct terms. But I have heard so much honey in the grocery stores, especially in the little bear shaped bottles, isn't really pure honey at all. ,BYC bee folks I DO trust.

Yes beekeeping is an expensive "hobby." It takes a lot of work to make it profitable. All in all the honey equipment you see in my kitchen runs probably around $1k. That doesn't even touch the woodenware for the hives which is pricey too. I think this fall we will sell our extractor and upgrade to one with a motor. It's 5 or 6 years old and starting to show wear so we'd like to be able to get most of our money back out of it and upgrade. The extractors are pricey but what really kills is the freight on the huge things.

Little no longer!

Wow no kidding!!!

What? After all of that preparing? Sorry. I can't imagine California getting .. snow conditions! Especially at this time of yr.
We have been getting rain, rain, rain, and more rain, since April. I would say we can't complain because we nee it..but man, I need some sunshine in my life. Hard to make us happy with our weather this past yr. I will just say it again I guess...:) Happy that we are getting the rain we need.
Yep, freak snowstorm. It left a good amount of snow.

Small run on the honey extraction today. Made a short video for my FB friends if you want to take a look-see.

And look at what we pulled from the garden today!

5 gallon bucket of broccoli (last batch before it bolts)
small tote of carrots (final harvest, we've been eating the fingerlings/thinnings for weeks)
small tote of onions (about half of what was out there)
large basket of cabbage (keeping one, giving 2 to family, selling 2)
5 qt bucket of peas
small bunch of lettuce. Most of the lettuce is starting to bolt so it's just about done.

Bring on the summer veggies!
Awesome video on the honey extraction! Love the garden produce too!

Remember little Buddy?

Sorta grown up now.
Oh my gosh!

Quote: Ditto, it is expensive. But once you taste the honey, it's worth it. The stuff in the store is yucky. Real, pure honey is wonderful tasting.

I had a classmate in college who's nickname was Buddy. Then for some reason he hooked up with a total witch, also in our class, and she decided Buddy was undignified, and we were no longer to call him that. I have to admit some of us forgot that repeatedly

which drove her nuts, but he will always be Buddy to me.
