Stella's Social Club

HI everybody!  No way can I catch up more than the last few pages.  It's been a SUPER busy summer.  My husband has started his own business and I've been carrying on farm stuff mostly on my own but sometimes with him underfoot.    And helping him get things started too.

Getting almost a gallon of milk per day off our milk goats, so today I tried my hand at making ricotta cheese, easy and yummy!  Kids start back to school next week, the summer has flown by.  Dropbox is full so I can't add photos like I usually do, and I don't have time to sort through and cut down the pictures so more can upload!  There are NOT enough hours in the day.  Lost a bunch of birds when the heat hit early in June, we were gone all day for Lonny's grandmother's funeral and I came home to over a dozen dead hens and 1 rooster.  Heartbreaking.  It was the breaking point to sell off my Orloffs though.  I lost 5 of 7 hens that week.  Ah well.  I will have a different breed in that pen next year!  Right now I've got my young East Frisian Gulls in there.  Flightier than my Leghorns, they are crazy birds and need a TOTALLY enclosed and netted space.  Not like my big English orps that couldn't get off the ground if they wanted to!

Sorry to hear about the shop Mary.  You do such beautiful work I was hoping things would work out better for you.

Hopefully as the weather cools down I'll have time to catch up more!

We'll be OK Rinda. Big time flub picking the location, but we aren't giving up. Hope your husband's business works out. It is hard to think about failing but you have to risk it for the chance to succeed.

Oops hit submit and I am on my iPad so no editing. I wanted to say how sorry I am about your loss, grandmother and birds. We had a horrendously hot week last week but so far so good. I think about Stella when it gets too hot but she seems to hold her own.

So sorry to hear about Lonny's grandmother and the loss of your birds.

Good luck with the new business! I hope it all works out for you guys! Chevre is super easy to make, you should try that cheese. I didn't like the whey, so I fed it to my chickens.......they loved it! I never did try feta when I was getting goats milk.

Ok, this looks like a dresser we had in our first apt. back in the 70's. It came partially furnished. Pretty sure it's the same type. But of course, it was brown! I love this color much better!

Kelly? Broody update?

Welsummer broody has 2 babies, both Welsummers. I had to tape curled toes on one of the chicks yesterday.

Crazy Orp has some eggs about half way though incubation, and 2 barnevelder eggs with swimming embryo's. Gosh, I hope they hatch.

So far, she is not squishing eggs and is stuck tight to the nest.

Yesterday morning I went to my favorite thrift store. They had just gotten in an Art Deco vanity seat! I grabbed it for $24.95, stopped by my favorite upholstery shop and bought a little remnant of Art Deco inspired fabric for $10.00, hurried home and painted it and now it will be sold with the vanity as a set! I can't wait to get it down to the shop and see how it looks! I think the colors in the fabric are going to look perfect with the shiny brass hardware. SCORE!

Michael just sent this pic from the shop!
