I would probably try a livetrap with a chicken head in it, icky as it sounds. Then you could relocate it deep in wilderness.

I don't believe releasing is legal.

or give it a burial at sea (or pond, or ditch.)

I'm not sure what the rules in California are about releasing, around here people pretty much do what they want to, my biggest concern is to get them ideally on the other side of a body of water so that they're less likely to come back. But we are completely surrounded by tens of thousands of acres of State and federal forest, teeming with both prey and predators of every type, so building an impermeable coop and run is the only way you can keep chickens.

Just what I wanted to do at 9pm. She has been sprayed about 6 times, you'd think she would learn to leave them alone.

I had a husky like that, he'd get sprayed and then wonder why he couldn't come in the house.

Kelly I've heard on BYC of skunks killing chicks and going after eggs. I bet they would go after grown birds if they were stationary in the dark. May be one of your preds. Ask on the predator threads.

Thanks Diva, but I do not have any trouble at night. My coop is mega-fortress, it even has concrete siding, so it cannot be climbed. Short of a bear, I don't think anything can get in there. And I don't think you can really predator proof for bears.

This critter is not a skunk (I've seen it) and it's attacking during the day and going through a 4 inch by 2 inch piece of fencing.
