Congratulations, Kathy! Amazing how fast this year's have flown.

I also have a Premier plate. If you don't adjust them properly the chicks can be too close to the heat plate. The legs are independently adjustable, so I always raise one edge higher so the chicks can pick their own comfort zone, and adjust them higher weekly.

The things I like are that they are UL listed and the electronics are sealed up and unlikely to get wet or fray. Compared to older heating pads, which are kind of scary. When they stay on for long periods of time, like days (which they are not intended for), the wiring can overheat or short out.
I agree!

Also, if there is a chance that the plate is getting to hot, and the premier has a tendency to go that way because it is rated to below freezing, There is a temperature regulator you can use.

My plate has never singed a chick. I am using one now for quail

I've got 18 eggs in the incubator that were supposed to hatch YESTERDAY and only 1 pip!! :barnie . Those Arkansas Blues can keep you waiting.
They can!

My last 4 hens laid an egg each yesterday. They are amazing!

Waiting for them to hatch is the hardest part!
I have had them hatch over three days! I thought it was from shipping but that is how they hatch for most of us
