Got home tonight and thankfully, everyone is accounted for and nobody was lost to the heat.

I did have to retrieve a barnevelder pullet and a turkey poult from the garden. And as I'm walking in the coop to put them away, I hear tweeting from my grape vines. I look over to see 3 more turkeys at the top of the 6 ft fence, roosting on the grape vines.

Plucked them off and put them in the coop - AND they barfed on me! Grody, dark brown barf! YUCKY!!!!!!

The night got even better when I went in the coop and saw Dusty on the nest. Her chicks are only 12 weeks old.

(I hate you Kathy - and yes, I can hear you laughing) I candled the eggs under her and one of her eggs had an eye, so I guess I'll get to see a black sex link from a Barnevelder/BR combination and an olive egger egg that I left under her as well. She had a few other eggs under her, including a couple Icelandic eggs, which thankfully did not appear to be fertile. (though I would have removed them anyway - no mixes happenin' here)

So now I'm up to #6 on the broodies this year.

I've made this one and took it to work for a Halloween potluck.

Almost none of it got eaten (and they'll eat ANYTHING). They said they couldn't get past the look, even though I assured them I had washed the pan VERY well.

One lady even snottly asked, "So this is what you think of us?"

I swear, some people have NO sense of humor.

My litter was made with crushed vanilla cookies. You also take about 1/2 cup and shake them in a jar with a drop of green food color, then mix those in so you'll have odor controlling crystals.
