Stella's Social Club

Awwww, Kathy. My Icelandic raising her wellie babies is similarly colored (though she has the unicorn comb). She's a great mama too. She's still sitting on her 4 week old babies. And my Production Red already has her 2 week old chick up on the roost with her. Too cute to see him tucked under her wing.

I hate to say this, but....................................I need a (as in JUST ONE) broody 2 weeks from now.

I'm getting some blue barnevelder eggs to hatch.

But I'm sure they won't cooperate so I'll be firing up the bator. The kids will be thrilled to watch babies hatch again.

Been in the new house for four days. I am so exhausted I could cry and nothing is done. Sorry about the phone number Kelly. They were supposed to forward calls automatically but it didn't happen. I sent you a PM with the temporary number until they get it worked out.

Emily went home yesterday after ten days. Today is her 19th birthday.
Kathy I mailed you Lukka's final five eggs. Say it isn't so......she's broody again.

She laid exactly 23 eggs between broods. Kathy got 20 and she is sitting on three! Good grief. Just what we need when moving.

Anyway I have taken lots of pictures but the cord to take them off the camera is missing in action! I have about a hundred boxes to unpack to find it.

I am driving back and forth all day taking care of the animals at the old house. Hopefully we'll get them moved over in a few days. Got the coops temporarily leveled today before the bobcat had to be returned. I got the playhouse that I am going to use as an incubator brooder room delivered. It is quite small because half of it is porch but I think it will work. I plan to build two brooders on the porch and use my ferret cage for daytime fun.

OMG I have so much to do. We have had a few unexpected glitches. Like removing a bookcase screwed into a wall in a weird spot only to find it was put there to hide the fact that there is no wall or flooring in that spot! Like needing HazMat certification to remove the freon in a 30 year old SubZero refrigerator. Like the seller's sending his handyman over to clean the pit bull piss stain out of my carpet only to have the pit bull piss again in the middle of the living room. Yikes.

Anyway, I'll post pics as soon as I find that cord. I miss y'all. High speed internet rocks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Forgot to mention we have red clay dirt here like Kelly has at her house. Michael used an auger to dig forty fence post holes yesterday and never hit a rock! The chickens are going to be in dirt diggin' heaven. Good thing I haven't been keeping the white ones.

Wow, only five? They must have had a rough trip. Or the first few weren't fertile. I sure got a lot of blues from my hatch and Lukka's last hatch.

Yesterday the neighbor across the street came over to say hello. He is a retired battalion chief for a large SF bay area FD. Emily mentioned we have chickens and he said, " You don't have roosters do you?" I told him I did and he said he hoped they didn't hear them. He said his bedroom is on the back side of his house. This is zoned Residential Agricultural and I am allowed up to 100 poultry including roosters but it sure made me nervous with that reaction. We'll probably have complaints but I plan to stand my ground. We have a school behind us, a road and pasture to the right, a subdivision across the road and this guy to the left. This house has been here for 120 years so I think that trumps everyone else.
