I've been doing theme baskets for my stepkids each year. I buy baskets (from Michael's) or big gift bags.

Last year was breakfast -
Dozen eggs
Jar of homemade wild blackberry jam
Loaf of yeast bread
Loaf of quick bread
Decorated with a kitchen towel and big homemade bow.

This year will be dinner -
Jar of home canned marinara sauce from our garden
Package of dried homemade pasta
Loaf of homemade french bread
Not sure what else I might include, maybe I have enough homemade limoncello to bottle them each a small bottle.

Kelly you are going to be mighty unpopular at the Christmas party!

Well, since we are skipping town for Christmas - I won't be around. Plus all the family drama I've had this year, I'm just not up for it. It's a family Christmas for the first time EVER with just the 4 of us. Should be a very peaceful Christmas.

We found the rest of him. headless and featherless. tons of talon marks. My wife saw a Red Tail Hawk in the oak tree by the chicken area. I saw it this last weekend.
If it knows what's best for itself it wont hang around this weekend

Thanksgiving is coming... anyone have turkeys hiding yet?

Nope, no turkeys here anymore. But we have a pig that a friend has been raising for us. Arranged with the rendering guy yesterday to go take care of it after Thanksgiving and get it to the butcher.

Bonus on beets - little boys love this - if ya eat enough of them, you can pee pink!

I love beets, though I've never peed pink. I can tell you that beet greens will make your chickens poop red! About freaked out last year when I walked to the run and saw red EVERYWHERE.

Just popping in cuz I can't resist...we put up something like 36 quarts of pickled beets one year and if you eat enough at one setting it'll make your poo red!

Doesn't everyone feed their baby strained beets? Pickled beets are my son's favorite. He'll go to a salad bar (he's now 32) and come back with just that on his plate.

I love beets with salad. YUMMY! I had salad for lunch today and now I'm missing the beets! My step dad will be giving me some soon, and mine are growing in my garden. I've never grown them before, so we'll see how they do.

Today my my white empordanesa rooster was killed. Now I have a big problem and am so terribly upset about it.
I will have to lock up my girls tomorrow and Friday.
Saturday I am going to Ambush it.

It is a Big Red Tail Hawk. I have seen him a few times recently. so has my wife. He has got to go.
