Kelly...so sorry.

I am somewhat relived that the wry neck girl is in chicken heaven but I wish she had just gone on her own. So sad to lose these little like that. I still mourn the loss of my turkeys. Today I have to clean their coop and rake what is left of their feathers from the yard. Tears will be shed I am certain. The thing I loved about the turkeys was that they were glad to see me coming even if I didn't have treats. Heck, even if I had treats they ignored the treats for my attention and petting until I was gone. Then they ate the treats.

On my way out the door to pick up feed, then over to clean the coops one last time at the old house.

Thanks Mary and Beth.

I miss that part of them too. Those that say turkey's are like dogs are right. But I do not miss worrying about them because they don't go into a coop at night! Or being barfed on when you pull them down to put them in the coop.

Falki is handsome and Elska is gorgeous as ever!

Mike - congrats on the show!

Mary - love the new stuff.  Nice lookin' daybed.  I have a hunch the lamp is safe from robbery though.

We went away for the weekend - and I came home to 3 less pullets.  Sad day.  The wry neck girl I expected to be gone, since she couldn't make it back in the coop most of the time.  Sad, but kind of a relief too - she was having a really hard time lately and would do a summersault and land on her back.  The other 2 were in the lower coop and doesn't look like hawk.  The first wellie pullet was just feathers.  My black sex link pullet, all that was left were her wings, neck and 1 leg.  I'm thinking bobcat, but I'm not sure.  It happened during the day though.  Of course it couldn't take one of the 5 extra cockerels. :/   But I'm extremely thankful it didn't take my 2 barnevelder cockerels I'm growing out.

I'm going to look into that netting that Mary uses and see if it's feasible to cover my run.  It's really large, so I'm not sure.  But I'm always going to have babies in this coop and I don't want to lose them every year.

So sorry to here :( So Sad..
My husband went after a coyote the other day.. The Coyote was chancing one of my hens in the middle of the day...hope he doesn't come back. ....

I had a dream last night that there was a pack of coyotes running up and down the fences trying to get after my chickens. I flung open the door and sent all four of my dogs out after them (not that I would send my dogs after a coyote), but Emma, the Great Dane ran them off.

Lovin' all the pictures! Falki and Elska are especially gorgeous, to me!

Mary, I love what you are doing with your new home! I bet you are having fun, too!

Mike - what a handsome devil your wife found.

Mary - what a life! You get to run around and pick up the perfect accessories. I really like the statues - I guess other women have musician hubbies too. I love everything you picked out- you have a real gift

Mimddh - congratulations. The first time I showed a dog, I went around the ring the wrong way, got the lead wrapped around my fingers and couldn't let go, and Brucie tried to bite the judge.Other than that I was "hooked". Oh we got second out of two dogs, and yes, a judge can withhold a ribbon. Looks like Sunni wasn't nervous at all. You dun gud!!

Dar I know how you were feeling, I only had 2 Tums left, and it was not enough. I was burping up turkey fumes in a most un-feminine manner.
Oh you make me laugh.

I'm sure, under the circumstances, it was the most feminine burp possible. Going the wrong way around the ring wasn't even on my list of 1000 things that could go wrong, I'll add that for next time, thanks.

Thanks guys. Only you guys understand how hard it is to lose them is such a horrific way. The really weird thing was that Saturday night I had a dream that my light brahma was attacked and I found her in pieces. Different chicken, but same outcome. Strange.

My DH is opposed to netting the run as it's really large and we have a big pine tree next to it. BUT.................he's going out of town next week for work, so surely if it's all done when he gets home, he can't complain, right?

It was super freaky when I came home today and not a chicken in sight in either run. I went up and they are all hiding inside. So it must have been pretty bad for them too. I'm hopeful that with my dog back on the premises, it will stay away. I spoke with a trapper - and he thinks bobcat because it ONLY attacks when my dog is not on the property. (had some losses the past couple of years from a bobcat) He says foxes aren't that smart, but bobcats are.

Sorry to hear about the loss of your pullets. I was gone for a short trip over Thanksgiving and was surprised when I returned to a full house. The last trip, a few weeks ago, resulted in one of Elska's pullets missing. I don't blame my chicken sitter friend....right now I have a few young cockerels that need to go and they are causing the younger pullets to stay out trying to avoid them.

Kathy, Did you go to a show this weekend? I thought you posted you were going to IA? Did you bring anything home this time?
