I'm trying to understand what went wrong with my last hatch. I had 3 of 8 make it after lockdown. One drowned and two died in the shell and appear to be too dry. It seems the inner membranes were all tough and leathery compared to my first hatch. Some of these chicks had some yellow gluey albumen too. So were they too humid for a while and then too dry? I was trying to just let them hatch naturally but when the two died, I started assisting and that's how the last 3 made it. They were stuck.
I have some at day 15 and I don't know if I have too much humidity or too little? I have a brinsea eco maxi 2 and have the humidity at 35-40%. I thought the aircells weren't growing enough so I dropped the humidity for a few days and the first batch (staggered hatch) did great. drew down well and all survived. I have been moving them to an Incuview at 70% for hatching.
These guys drew down a lot and seemed dry and wet if that makes sense. I know this is confusing, but I haven't slept.
Is there anything I can do besides monitor air cells and weights on this last wave set to hatch next week? I feel like the variables were the same for all of these clutches. Other than they come from different hatcheries (shipped eggs). Having them DIS like this is breaking my heart. The info about sticky chicks vs shrink wrap etc. is confusing. I feel like people use the terms a bit interchangeably and they mean different things to different folks. My climate is super dry but I have a tent and humidifier set up around hatcher to counteract. I have 5 calibrated thermometers and 4 calibrated hygrometers so I feel like I've got some good data.
thanks
