Hi,
I treated my hens with safe guard paste. They got a pea sized dose for four days and then for two days two weeks later. Just a few days after treatment worms showed up in their poop, again. Did I give them a high enough dose? Should I give them a third treatment?

Thank you

What type of worms are you trying to treat?

Safeguard will treat most worms that chickens have except for Tapeworms.

Fenbendazole (Safeguard) is dosed by weight, so a "pea size" dose was probably not an effective dose.

Treat them again at a dose of 0.23ml per pound of weight given orally once a day for 5 days in a row. No repeat.

Photos of worms and poop are always welcome.

Thank you. The photos I have a grainy. They have small, white worms, probably round worms.

They had the same issue last summer. The same dosage worked then, but not now.

Fenbendazole will kill some tapeworms (Tanea) but not all. Praziquantel will kill them, and isn't approved for poultry. Are they maggots? How long was that sample sitting out there?

The sample was very fresh. There has been dead maggots in their poop, before. These are much smaller and alive and moving. I was looking on older threads would equimax work?

Equimax will work. Give 0.032 ml per pound of body weight orally. Repeat in 10-14 days.
