lol my eggs are half the size of yours. they look dwarfed in an egg carton haha.
but i dont know how big a RIR's eggs should be. i have only had them laying for about a week and yesterday the other 2 started. all small eghgs. only 1 big one and that was the second egg I got. rest are small but it only had 1 yolk. they are a little smaller than yours hehe

Thank you! :D If I'm this excited over a tiny egg I may just die when a Momma bird has her first chicks!:th

I knew that-I think I lost some oxygen during my excitement over the egg!

LOL you should have seen me the first day I got an egg. I was running around showing everyone i found the egg, I even emptied it and mounted it on the coop as a trophy, all 3 of my chickens first eggs are trophys on the coop lol

The first week, my black sex links eggs looked tiny, too. Now they are a little bit bigger. My buff orpingtons eggs started out bigger than the black sex links are after 3 weeks of laying.

Fun stuff! :clap
Congrats on that first egg! :yesss:

My gold sex link, Red, has always laid jumbo eggs.
I think her first two could be considered extra large.
For several months I would actually weigh their eggs on a digital weight watchers scale and record it on the calendar.
Her first egg was 1.8 ounces layed at 20 weeks.

After 4 days she began laying 2 ounce eggs and at one week laid a double yolker at 2.8 ounces.
Here’s that one compared to her normal egg:

At two weeks, she laid another double yolker that was 3.1 ounces.

After laying for two months she laid a wopper that was 3.7 ounces! :th

The Wyandottes started laying at 6 months old within days of each other.
Their eggs started out at 1.4 - 1.6 ounces and after several months evened out at 1.8 - 2.2 ounces on average.

Red averages a 2.6 ounce egg now.

Wow! What are you feeding them?
Only on of my Barred Rocks are laying (that I'm aware of) and so far an egg every other day & tiny eggs too. But I'm sure my other ladies will start laying very soon!

I'm originally from Traverse City but have been in Florida most of my life. My brother is there. I see you are a relatively new member, welcome.

Do not worry and give the birds a little more time. Some won't lay until around 26 weeks. I had some heritage breeds that were around 30 weeks before they started laying. Good luck and have fun...

Hello! Thank you! We are Military and my husband wanted to retire here in TC. We built a house by Long Lake and then a year later my DH wanted some land...we built on twenty acres outside of Kingsley and started a hobby farm! It has been crazy! We lost one of our pigs and half of my flock of chickens, but I'm learning everyday and I adore the animals.

So, how long has it been since you've visited TC? From what I hear and from the three short years I've been hear TC is growing very fast!

Congrats on the egg! It looks about the same size that my black sex link is laying. She has had small eggs since she startes laying, with a few bigger ones here and there. The bigger ones have always been a double yolk so far. She has been laying for almost a month now, and still has small eggs, so I am guessing it can take awhile before the eggs start getting bigger

Oh..thanks for the heads up! I was assuming just the first few would be small. And she is only laying every other day..do you know if that's "normal"?

Totally normal. It can take awhile for their systems to figure it out. They are all different, too. My first layer is still laying fairly small eggs, although they are getting a little bigger than at first. The other black sex link just started laying last week, and after one soft shell, she has laid bigger eggs than the first layer.

I now have three layers AND they are laying in the nest boxes! I tried a plastic egg in the nest but they just kept kicking it out. I decided they must not like it so I bought some ping-pong balls and the next day there was an egg! Yesterday I had three small eggs! I really hope they get a little bigger.:fl I have two Silver Duckwing OEGBs that haven't started laying yet but if my Barred Rock eggs are this small what on earth will I do with OEGB eggs? Does anyone have any of this size egg they could share? Thanks!
