I got three day-old chicks on April 28, which makes them 7 months old today, and none of them have began laying - a Red Star Sexlink, double-laced Barnevelder, and a Welsummer, all which should normally begin laying around 16-20 weeks. I also have three older hens (16 months old), one stopped laying due to a soft molt, the other two are still laying. I live in Loveland, Colorado (northern Colorado), but it has only began snowing at the beginning of November. The new chickens are healthy and eating high quality feed, so I’m at a loss and very frustrated as to why they haven’t began laying. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions or dealt with this before? Thank you in advance!

Less light is affecting there need to lay. Remember, heritage breeds take longer to start laying. The timing can influence there delay due to low light and being colder.

Extend there light hours in the coop to trigger them to start laying. Requires light in the coop on a timer.
