The bigger EEs next to him are 1 week older than he is.

Wow, yes that is a big difference! I forget how different the cockerels look, I guess because I don't raise chicks often. Lovely birds you have! Big EE fan here!

The boys do mature much faster. I heard a crow yesterday from inside an egg.

Yeah, I just wasn't confident because I have no experience with these breeds. I have two 11-week-old Swedish Flower cockerels and it was much easier for me to tell they were cockerels early on. My 11-week-old SFH pullet has a tiny comb!

I get it. I've had my Marans for 4 yrs so grown used to spotting them early, but I have a hard time spotting gender in other combs like peas and rose. All in what we see everyday.
Here's an example of a breeder that breeds towards smaller combs in her BBS Silvers. Both are Blue Silvers and 4 weeks old. Still a bit confused on these myself but I believe the one perching is a male and other is female. My Marans I can usually gender by a week old thanks to Kongs ginormous comb.

Chickens love to hang out on and under cable spools! I have a few larger ones in the pasture as well.

It's so funny how Delphina rests her head on the other chicks.

Captured some battles in the barnyard! Bjorn (crested) remains the top cockerel. He is already practicing some mating behavior with a pullet as well.

You know it! I've been taking all these shots hoping to get some nice ones for the calendar, but none have been exactly what I'm hoping for. I'll keep trying and wallowing in chicken poop!
