Stolen Horse--Man is BACK in jail!

I don't care what anyone else posts

I'm for her, not the jerk who has the horse

Paying for upkeep - I would think means that it is ok for 'this guy' to keep her horse - why??? She obviously wants it back, so why should she pay someone who stole her horse?

This whole thing is really starting to smell bad

Think about it. Why would any sane person agree to pay upkeep on a horse that they were refused access to? That's about as asinine as saying that somebody should be able to get a storage fee after they get caught receiving stolen property. Normal people don't expect the victims to have to pay large sums of money to get stolen property back. Don't forget, the theives have had family working in law enforcement, and that gives people the idea that there may be a conflict of interest. If a guy leased a car and then sold it to his uncle, should the car dealer have to pay storage and upkeep fees to to the uncle to get his property back? After reading your post, I would assume that backwards thinking is common in the area. Even if she didn't check his references, that doesn't make the horse not hers. Buying and selling stolen property is illegal and immoral. I can't believe that there are people that think theivery is excusable just because the victim trusted the wrong person.

TJ's Na-Na, don't take this the wrong way, but do you know or are you related to any of the players in this saga? What is their side of the story, other than "we took the horse and want to keep it unless she pays?" From the outside looking in, it seems that there is a tight knit community that shelters this guy and his family and enables them to walk on everybody else.

Are you kidding me??? Your local police departments functioned within the law? It sounds more like your local police departments corrupt the law. They should have sent someone out to check on the welfare of the horse when she first went to them.
The uncle knew darn well that he was accepting stolen property. I bet he never even paid a penny for the horse.
And why should she pay for upkeep on a horse that was STOLEN FROM HER!!!! The uncle was threating her and trying to bully her into paying money or she would never see the horse again at the last hearing.
The guys darn lucky it wasn't my horse or him and his nephew would be a swing from my oak tree in the backyard. In CT you can still hang horse thieves.

If the uncle wanted money he should sue the nephew who sold the horse to him, it's stolen property and it must be returned! The cost of it's keep is going up as the uncle has kept the horse from the rightful owner, braking the law in doing that. Sounds like a crooked town all around.
