Stolen Horse--Man is BACK in jail!

Sadly you are correct when you say most government offices will not help.

We had our house burglarized and just our dogs were stolen. Cops took a report and that was it. I know they have more important things to do so we took matters into our own hands and went back into a REALLy bad neighborhood at night with money and guns (for self defence only) and basically had to locate the dogs and then called the cops. After that the official response was most satisfactory.

I personally would recommend keeping record of every thing you have done to try to get the authorities involved unsuccessfully and then take matters into your own hands.

Hope you find him. I once sold a horse on payments and the gal stopped making payments. I finally had to go steal my horse back when we found that he was being kept at her dad's farm. Her dad was like oh, I thought she bought him and owned him but was very nice and let us take him off the property.

Update:

The horse that was stolen has now been SOLD. The man who leased MY horse sold MY horse to HIS uncle. The uncle knew and KNOWS about the lease agreement yet still bought the horse.

The guy who leased my horse has told everyone that he attempted to get ahold of me with no luck. Guess who has telephone records that state otherwise.

ALSO, the guy who thinks he owns my horse will not let me see the horse unless I pay $5,000. Now that it is theft, the sheriff is getting involved and is only going to call and use a "scare" tactic, but nothing more. Ridiculous.

He never knew where I lived. I met him at my aunt's property, but he had my cell phone number on the contract. Seems VERY odd to me that he blames me for being impossible to get into contact with...when he was the one that changed his phone number.

Ridiculous.

Is there anything anyone can do to help you at this point? If there is, even though I'm across the country from you, I'll try to do anything I can. Stealing is one thing... when it involves horses, it's a different story for me. My prayers are with you. Good luck and keep us posted!

Yes!!! That's good news .. we have to find a way for you to get your horse back ............

Sounds like it is time to file a formal complaint of horse theft or fraud against the original guy and a charge of receiving stolen property/accessory after the fact against the uncle since he admits he knew the nephew did not own the horse. Your proof of ownership is that registration certificate that has not been assigned to any new buyer. If you don't have a lawyer, you should get one, and ask him to accompany you to the sheriff's office to file the formal complaint. That should result in an appearance before a judge. Then everybody will get their day in court and the judge will decide who actually owns the horse now.

Good luck with this. It's a heartbreaker.
