Hi

I have 3 hens which i have had for a few months now. One of them went broody but after chucking her out of the coop a few times she quickly snapped out of it. However, another of my hens has gone broody now and is much more persistent!!

I have chucked her out and stopped her from going back into the coop all day for about a week. when you first take her out of the coop she tries to sit down again but if you get her to walk around a bit she seems to snap out of it and is very happy wondering round the garden with the other 2. she does go back to the coop to try to get in but when she sees the doors is shut she just leaves it. I was hoping she was snapping out of it because she was being so normal in the day, but i have to take her out every morning or i know she would sit in the coop all day long. She takes a few pecks at me when I take her out as well!

I have found a cheap dog cage that is all wire so am going to get that and try the confinement trick for a few days, that I read about on here, as she has stopped the other 2 laying....egg production is way down!

I was wondering if there is anything i should try while i wait for the dog cage to arrive?

Also, is there anything you can do to stop a hen from going broody before she starts or is it pretty much just going to happen?

thanks for any help!!

I think you got it covered.

And, I don't think you can prevent broodiness. It just happens.
