Stormcrow's Hobby Farm

Both my parents and hubby's parents divorced. Mine made it 16 years, his about 18. Supposedly, that makes us more likely to split up. I doubt it.

We've done much better than either of my siblings, both married three times.

A few years ago, someone at work asked me if something happened to my husband, would I remarry, eventually? I said, "NO! It took me 30 years to get him to put his dirty socks in exactly that spot! I'm not going to start over with someone new!"

I've told people that probably would not marry again, I don't want to train another husband 😎

My parents made it 28 years before divorce. They where still amicable after and both missed the other.

They both remarried and my dad was slightly happier and my mom is my mom perpetually a pessimist most the time. She's not unhappy but not really happy either.

Lost my stepmom in February of 2022 and then my dad in September of 2022. He was lost with out her. 😭

Same thing when hubby talked about moving to Alaska. No or very limited sunshine for extended periods of time? Same thing. I'd be insane or dead. You go, dear. Text me every now and then.
Depending on which part of Alaska, it might not be as bad as you think.

I grew up near Kenai, a bit south of Anchorage (biggest city in the state.) Electric lights are a wonderful invention-- I would not have wanted to live there before electricity was common!

But there was always daylight by late morning (maybe 9-ish am?) even in winter, and it didn't get dark again until around dinnertime (maybe 5pm?) So there were always some hours of daylight to do things. Also, with the ground covered in white snow during the winter, the moon & stars could sometimes light things up fairly well, if you wanted to go skiing or ice skating or something like that.

That far north, you also have a long twilight. So in the summertime, even though the sun would go below the horizon in the middle of the night, it never actually got dark. That long twilight helped in the winter too, because the amount of time we had "light" was longer than the official number of hours between sunrise and sunset. The time of year that felt darkest was in the fall, as the days got shorter and the ground was not yet covered by snow.

I do think good electric lights made the biggest difference. When I moved to other parts of the US, I was shocked at how poorly lit many houses are. I was used to having good bright lights in the ceiling of every room of the house, so if you wanted to be indoors it didn't really matter whether outdoors was dark.

Semi productive day. Still just the one duck who hatched while I was at the hardware store. It is doing well.

Fixed (temporary) the floor in the RV - circle saw cuts were pretty good - enough so that I had to take the faceplates off the wall so that it would drop flush. That was more snug than I intended.

Trailer lights are rewired.

Purple Martin gourds have been moved to the new location and are 8' higher in the air - now 20', not 12'.

Spent a mostly enjoyable time here on BYC, except the time I spent responding to one poster who is either very young or deliberately trolling. Possibly both.

Accomplished grocery shopping for the week.

Fixed the hydraulic leak on the new tractor (my fault, hit one of the fittings iwth a small tree. Thankfully, didn't damage any threads).

Did all the stuff that has to get done every day to keep things fed, freshly watered, and the fence working.

The only thing left is breakfast. I forgot to eat today. Something had to give.

So, a pair of corned beef on rye with kraut, mustard, swiss. and a vague wave in the direction of a black and tan. Can't get Bass in town (a proper Black and Tan). or Harp (a Half and Half). or Newcastle (a Black Castle), or Hoegaarden (Midnight in the Garden), suffering with a Blue Moon I bought six months ago for someone's visit (Black and Blue). /edit to clarify CAN get Guiness. Its about the only beer on the shelf. Almost everything else is some American malt beverage made with rice or corn. Unless its a Mexican malt beverage made with corn.

Glad to hear the little one is doing well.
How many left to go?

Sorry I missed the party. As for marriage, DH and I have been married for 37 years. I can't imagine my life without him! ❤️
No, don't think I'd ever marry again. I suppose I'd become that crazy chicken lady that lives up the path. :gig

And now there are two (and a cup of coffee). I'll candle the eggs tonight when it gets dark, see where things are at. Yesterday's is still with us, if not energetic. At least he or she has a buddy now in the brooder box.

Need to feed the animals and make some hash for breakfast with the left over corned beef - and of course poached eggs from the flock!

What about Guinness?

:drool And man oh man! That's the kind of thing that makes me hate being gluten free.

How's the little duckling this morning?
Guinness I can get - in the can with the widget, even (MUCH Harder to pour frm bottle - the layers don't seperate as well).
