Probably a Savage Axis chambered in .308. Will drop anything in Florida, and since 200 yards is longer than any sight line available to me, I'm not worried about the .308's bullet drop comparred to smaller, faster rounds like the 6.5 Creedmoor. But I'm open to influence on that. The Creedmoor has much less recoil, which is, honestly, a consideration. I'm just concerned about the overall bullet dimensions - worried that it is so small and light it will overpenetrate and fail to deliver all that energy to target - particularly inside 100 yards. Also considering a .270, but the .270 has recoil similar to a .308, at which point, may as well just get the .308, since a 1 ft pd difference in recoil is about the only thing the .270 has over the ,308 at the ranges I'll be dealing with. What are you going to get?
There are days I could get bambi with a handgun... they come within 10-20 feet of the house and munch on the ivy.![]()
