2 boys, 4 girls. One cage for a replacement (boy or girl, depending on who is aging out) at least one set of kits. How many rabbits are you looking to have around, as an average?
We gave ours 3 chances. If they succeeded, then it was lowered to only 1 fail was allowed the following time. If they failed 2x and then 2x again with only one success in-between, they were either revoked as a pet or processed.Fames had 6 kits last night - great litter size for a New Zealand white. None made it to morning. Bellum is next in line. Debating whether to give Fames another opportunity in three months or not. This is her second failed kitting.
Seems a good rule.We gave ours 3 chances. If they succeeded, then it was lowered to only 1 fail was allowed the following time. If they failed 2x and then 2x again with only one success in-between, they were either revoked as a pet or processed.
I saw packages of "deer plot" seeds at TSC the other day. Lots of clovers in the mix, alfalfa, and others that I don't recall. I was thinking of getting some to make a bee plot.Hancock, where I normally get my seed, is out of a lot of the things I am interested in. Same as the hatcheries right now.
Brome here as well. I cut some and use as straw for the bunnies.I saw packages of "deer plot" seeds at TSC the other day. Lots of clovers in the mix, alfalfa, and others that I don't recall. I was thinking of getting some to make a bee plot.
It would be difficult to get it started. The field I have is FULL of brome grass. Some others, but lots and lots ofbrome.
Last November, the county put deep new ditches in on our road out by the corner. To channel runoff...? I saw it as spots to foster some horrendous erosion on our property. I found a bag of alfalfa seed in the basement that is probably 6-8 years old and scattered about 5 pounds of it very thickly. If it sprouts and grows, great. If it sprouts and dies over the winter, I have another 5 pounds to plant next spring.
It did indeed sprout, so at least I know the seed is still viable.
