Story Away!

he looks like a Brabanter and love Hats highlights

looks great on him
i agree, Palmer totally looks like a brabanter. i have noticed that about his sis, (who i thought was a boy, but doesn't have much wattle development, and no saddle feathers.)named Cookie. she is so sweet yet very skittish. i have a australorp roo named Sugarpuff and he doesn't watch or take care of his flock. (i have 2 flocks. his is bigger then the one Hats and Palmer share) he will seriously desert them for food. for FOOD! i want my hens protected, not ignored. any ideas or advice? maybe he is being overpowered by another roo that i still think is a girl? my frizzle in his flock has been pretty mean....maybe it's a boy? (it's named Dina) Dina is starting to chase me around aggressively everywhere. Dina won't attack, but i have a feeling he/she is going to soon. this is like a replay of the first roo i ever had called scratchy. he was really mean. everyone would run from him. he would jump onto your leg and claw and peck it. back then i had no idea what to do so i gave him back to the farm i bought him from as a young cock. and Dina is to be a frizzle but seems to look more like a booted cochin of some kind. no curly feathers. and yes, Hats highlights look halarious. i just gave him a mullet cut. LOL.

Hatsie Patsie is getting so big. he is such a cute little cock.

spunky little guy. i recently trained him to shake people's hands with his foot! lol! (well, he kind of trained himself, actually...) man, i love Hats. i mean, look at him! how could i ignore that face?
i love walking up to the coop, singing,
"who's the best chicken in the world? (in my opinion) Hatsie Patsie is!"
(not to boast about him)

Lol. Does he do that each time? How did you get him to repeat it?
like i said, he kind of trained himself. i will just hold him up to support him so he doesn't loose balance, and he will stick out a foot and wait. if no one shakes it, he will stick out the other and wait. lol. he really is serious about that whole thing. if he doesn't get a shake, he seems to get bored, and walks away.

Yay! How are they?
I just got some new chickens too!
A buckeye, a Lohman brown, and 2 white bresse chickens. They are all laying pullets, and get along great with the others. The buckeye i don't have a name for yet... (can I name it little red after your RIR Summer?)
The Lohman brown is called Daisy, and the big white bresse is called Blossom, and the smaller white bresse is called Emma.
They are so sweet.
And I have a quick question...
My little cochin roo, (I used to think he was a frizzle, but he is almost 6 months now, and hasn't gotten any friz. ) named "Dina" (it's obvious I thought he would be a girl.)can't mate. Every time he hops on a hen, he is so tiny he just slides off. And the only hens he likes are large.he hasn't grown an inch since 2 or 3 months ago.and don't start thinking he is nice. He will run at me, and I have to lean over him to make him run away. He also attacks the other hens. When he does, my massive australorp roo (Sugarpuff) will jerk him off. One time Dina came at me, and Sugar ran out from behind me to hord him off. So cute. But anyways, how do I help Dina mate?
Oh yes, and Hatsie Patsie is doing great. He did his first mating dance! Yay! And it was to Daisy.
All is well in chicken land.
How about you guys?

I think Dina might be a Bantam that might have the reason for the problems you should get him some hens his own size well if you want to you can

Sounds like a bantam. He's going thru hormones in becoming a boy. Keep showing him that you're boss like you are. Some of the lil ones can be real jerks during their teens.

For the problem mating, he'll figure out out. You can try bantam girls for him too. My cockerels have taken to using stuffed dog toys as a substitute for girls. Right now the girls their age aren't interested & the older girls want nothing to do with them.

I'm glad hats is doing well. I'm in Florida visiting my mom & sister. So hopefully when I get back I'll be back in the swing of things. Have to catch up! I put branches in my coop & the juniors are sleeping there when I put them in. I need to raise the roof soon offer put in lower branches.

Soon!

Thank you both!
I am starting to have a human aggressive roo. He is already huge! He used to be such a sweetie pie. He is a australorp.
