it was night time and peach was sleeping in her nest when she heard a scratching sound, she puffed up, "Mango," she wispered over to the roost. "Mango!" she said more harshly mango made a annoyed cluck in response, "do you hear that?" peach said, mango lifted her head and just out side the coop she saw a big narly head and two glowing eyes. "BWAAAAHAAHHAAK!" She flew around the coop squawking "A EATER A EATER!!!" that's what chickens called their predators, from where peach was sitting she could see out side so she jumped hitting her head on the top of the nesting box when the flood lights switched on, and talllady cam out and right there the narly head was just a small ball of fluff it was a tiny kitten cold from the night and trying to get in to the heat lamps, tall lady came over and exlaimed "how cute!" and carried the small cold kit inside. the chickens where quite frantic still, but burst out laughing when they heard what had happened.

"Hey, Mango!" Said Peach "do me a favor and pass the cracked corn!" Mango turned away from Peach without answering. Elanora watched as Mango whispered something to Nightsky about "breaking the moody broody," and Elanora realized that Peach had become an outcast--just like herself.

Elanora gingerly walked toward the nestboxes. She resisted the impulse to run as Peach hissed. "Peach?" Elanora said softly. "What is it you want?" Grumbled Peach. Again, Elanora wanted to run. But she stood still and said " Well, Um see, I just thought" " What do you WANT?" Peach asked. "A friend" Elanora answered. Peach's heart melted. She had always felt sorry for Elanora, but Mango had discouraged her from befreinding Elanora. Now here was a chance. "of course you can be my friend" Peach said with a smile.

Elanora let out a breath. Finally she had a friend. Finally she was not alone. Finally there was someone beside her, someone to defend her in arguments.

The pecking order was shifting, coop dynamics were changing. Nightsky did not like this one bit. It had started with Peach's broodyness, and then Peach and Mango fought, and now Elanora had befriended Peach. What was next? Nightsky wished that things would return to their normal order. Her position as head hen was precarious--it had been threatened by both Mango and Olive before--and any small change in the pecking order would make it even more wobbly.

The next morning Elanora walked outside with Peach. They were talking to each other. Elanora was so happy that Peach had befriended her. Peach was glad that she had befriended Elanora. She now had a friend while grumpy Mango was brooding. "Peach?" Asked Elanora. "Yes?" responded Peach. "Well, are you glad that I'm your friend?" "Of course!!!" Peach hugged Elanora and they both went into the coop for some breakfast.

The next morning Elanora walked outside with Peach. They were talking to each other. Elanora was so happy that Peach had befriended her. Peach was glad that she had befriended Elanora. She now had a friend while grumpy Mango was brooding. "Peach?" Asked Elanora. "Yes?" responded Peach. "Well, are you glad that I'm your friend?" "Of course!!!" Peach hugged Elanora and they both went into the coop for some breakfast.

Um... Peach was the one brooding.

Nightsky was going to do something. She had to! She was the head of the pecking order, apart from Lander. If she had him on her side, she was unstoppable! "So, Lander, what do you say to a little game?" she asked sweetly. He grunted in response. "Excellent," she crooned. An hour later, they were ready. First, Nightsky approached Elanora. "Elli, love," she clucked in her best mother hen voice, "I've noticed you hanging out with that grump." "Huh?" muttered poor confused Elanora. "Oh, you don't know?" Nightsky said, feigning surprise. "You don't know what Peach did before you came here?" Now the Speckled Sussex was REALLY confused. "Huh?" she said again. "She nearly pecked poor...um...Pinky to death! Yes, it was Pinky!" Innocent Elanora had always been told to listen to her elders, and that was Nightsky. "Oh my!" she gasped. "Yes, it's true!" Nightsky's plan was falling beautifully into place....

Nightsky sighed, this little hen was so gullible.......She began regret her thoughts and plan, but her position was at stake.She continued," Things didn't go well for her, um she was very ill and well you know." Nightsky was a very wise hen with knew lying would eventually catch up with her. She hated doing it but,what she said now could change the future.
