Hi, I’m on day 5 of treating my chickens for coccidiosis with amprolium. I’m still seeing the occasional bloody poop, and today when cleaning out the roosting area I found a large strange fiberous horrible smelling oval thing. Any idea what this is, and if it’s related to the treatment for coccidiosis?

Thanks for your help!

It may be some shed intestinal wall from the coccidiosis. How are they doing? Make sure they are drinking well.

Drinking well... I was just not sure if this is normal during treatment, do they grow a new intestinal wall? How bad is this? Will they be ok?

@casportpony do you think this shed material could be from the ceca?
Amazing pictures! Yes, that looks like it came from the ceca. Google cecal core and you might find similar pictures. It's pus think.

I had a prayer pass two of those, one from each ceca, and she survived, but it took seems for her to recover.

This are some pictures of bloody cecal cores. The ceca are two blind ended parts of the intestines.

Another diagram showing the ceca on each side of the end of the small intestines where it joins the large intestines.
