Strange Tracks in Pen *Logical Conclusion on Page 46*

that rat is healthy!

the snake is probably scared of it

maybe the tracks were made by the rat dragging home a bagel or something.

Nutrias? Hmmmmmm, don't they make coats out of those? i could have a money-making venture out there.

mudfork, thanks for the advice on the game cam. This is my first one. i thought it worked by detecting movement, but i could be wrong. The instructions are pretty limited. i have heard, though, that rats are very suspicious of new items in their environment. Hoping if i leave the trap there every night it will eventually wander on in, if it will fit.

GhostRider65, a 12 pound rat? Yikes! Glad this guy isn't that big!

Well, here we are again. Game cam set, trap set. It's pouring outside, but that pen stays dry. Hoping for some good pictures tomorrow.

Colleen,

It could very well work on by it's detection of movement, however that detection is sometimes based off of Infra red heat crossing thru the grid system or receivers. So in essence it needs body heat or at least movement of something that produces temperature differentials in the grid to have it report that movement has taken place.

Well shoot! Not one picture this morning. This is, unfortunately, what i read in the reviews of this cam after i bought it. It should at least have pictures of me approaching it in the morning when i went to retrieve it, as it did the very first time i used it. i'll call customer service, but thinking i should switch to the cam i bought at Walmart. i was hesitating opening that one as i thought perhaps i would return it.

Does your game camera have a battery indicator? Mine burns through batteries really quickly, I can get maybe 600 or so still shots before it needs the battery swapped out. I think that mine must work on movement, not heat, because sometimes I get photos of trees moving or grass waving. I've gotten some great shots of deer, coyotes, raccoons, and once I got almost ten minutes of video footage of a bear! (Who then promptly went into my front yard and pooped on my lawn. I guess he didn't want his photo taken.)

Wow, maryellenks, i get ticked when the neighbor's dog poops on my yard. Can't imagine the size of the scooper and plastic bag you would need for bear poop!

It could be the batteries. First day i used it i got over 600 pics, then i switched to the other SD card and got 400+ pics the next day. i think i swapped batteries out then. But after those first two days it showed "Full" which was a problem with erasing the SD cards. And then i think i got 11 pics and now nothing for days, even though i was moving around right in front of the camera to retrieve it. The red indicator light comes on and it looks like it's ready, but then no pics, and i can't imagine that rat took a sabbatical last night.

i also notice that those snake looking tracks tend to not appear if it has been raining, and it was pouring last night. i went back through my postings here to look at the clearest pictures of the tracks, to see if i could imagine that rat making them, and it just doesn't seem possible. Little frustrating that all these technical difficulties are getting in the way. Maybe i can mount both cameras tonight.

Oh, and to answer your question, it does not have a battery indicator light, that i know of.
