some insurance companies will cancel you or upon renewal, they will make your rates so high you will not renew the policy all because the breed of your dog.

^^^ Exactly. I learned this first hand because of some rumor that my shelter rescue was a pit mix; however, since my dog does not have pit in her that was all dropped... did make for some ugly few months though....

You have gotten some wonderful advice and I agree with what's already been stated. ALL dogs have the potential to be vicious if not trained, socialized, or treated appropriately. Pit bulls as a breed in whole have received negative media - pound for pound they are one of the strongest breeds and they also have 'that look' to them, hence these dogs tend to fall into the hands of people who take advantage of their structure and breeding and often use them for the wrong purpose... Pit bulls and other bully breeds of dog were originally breed to be loyal guardians (and hunters) and this (these) characteristic(s) does (do) show through the breed as an extremely strong trait.

Huskies are gorgeous, but they need a TON of exercise. They also have the tendency to run off if not kept in a fenced in yard or tied. Huskies are also not noted to be a family dog... they tend to attached themselves to one person so I'm not sure how the mindset of a Husky-Pit mix would mesh, plus imagine the strength and stamina of that cross - fewf!.

I do see your mom's view and I'm going to tell you what my parents always use to tell me "As long as you live under my roof, you will respect my wishes. Once you move out you can buy yourself anything you want" - if your planning on living home for quite a while, I would recommend you find more of a "family dog" - something your mom would like and feel comfortable having around...

(and yes... don't go for any of these "free to good home" or pet-shop dogs... I recommend finding a reputable breeder or going to a shelter)

Good luck with your puppy search! I hope all goes well!

Her house, her rules. Be glad that she is considering letting you have a dog. Look for another one. There are plenty of dogs out there. Pt bulls can be nice. Huskies can be nice. Huskies can also have a very high prey drive and hard to have around chickens. Pit bulls can be powerful dogs. I say kudos to your mother because she knows that she has no experience with pit bulls and recognizes that they may not be the right breed for her. If more people would recognize their limitations with breed knowledge, there would be a lot less bad press for pit bulls. There are plenty of dogs out there needing homes. Go find one that your mother is comfortable with.

Just so you guys know I do have 3 dogs already

Humane shelters and rescue are great for the most part,we have got some great dogs from rescues, but when my yorkie got killed this summer, first thing I started doing was checking out rescue for another one, found what was advertised as a yorkie from a rescue in Warren Co,Should have known something was wrong when she wanted to meet in Lowes parking lot, she took no app from me, did not have the dog neutered, and only had a rabies shot paper, I told her I didn;t thnk he was a yorkie but she assured me he was, well I now have a 57 varity mix, that almost pulls my shoulder out of place trying to walk him, SO WHERE EVER YOU GET YOUR PUPPY FROM ASK FOR REFERRENCES, AND CALL THEM, if they are really looking for the best home for the dog, they will have no problem giving you a reference, or the vets name.like everthing else, be careful, there are people in it for just the money, marrie

That certainly changes the picture. Why on earth would you want to pay even more out for veterinary care and dog food in today's economy? And professional training for you and the dog- if you get a pit/husky mix, you will need it!

I agree, be happy with the ones you have!

I really believe that Pits are the sweetest dogs ever and they only have their bad name because they are big and strong and that's what people look for in fighting dogs. If you raise them from puppy-hood then I don't see any problem with owning a pit, or mix for that matter. I would LOVE a pit/husky mix. My BF has been looking for a puppy too.....
As far as your mom....it is her house....and her rules.

because we needed a dog that was gonna stay out at night and protect our birds, lets all just forget this post, I just asked simply to find out how other peoples pitts and/or huskys acted.

and I never said I wanted to go against my moms rules I just wanted to know how they act.
