This hatch is winding down, and this morning a chick was "unzipping" it shell. well when I came home from work it hadn't seems to have made much progress so I took a closer look and everything in the incubator seem pretty dry. I couldn't figure out what was going on, and I took the chick out and it looked like the membrane was dried out and was stuck to the chick. I started looking around and the humidifier was unplugged. Come to find out one of the kids thought it was too damp in there and unplugged it while I was at work instead of asking questions.. We took the chick out and carefully dampened it down were it was exposed , and carefully re-dampened and peeled a tiny bit at a time. We had like 1/4 opened up and we looked inside and we could see that the yolk had not absorbed, so we immediately quit, and put the chick in a cup and put it back in the incubator--with the humidifier back on. The chick is trying so hard, chirping, but the exposed feathers have gotten stiff.
I am not sure we can do anything but wait till the yolk absorbs first and formost and then see if the chick can get un-stuck. Possibly with the humidifier back on maybe it will soften up a bit..
The individual we told to next time leave things alone.. They didn't know the humidity was supposed to be that high, but still should have asked...
Any thing we can do for this baby??
How long will it take for the yolk to absorb down??

The chick didn't make it, seems the yolk /guts didn't close right or something.....
