stupid assumptions people make about others

I wear my Air Force Veteran hat a lot. Several times I have had people tell me to thank my husband for his service. I've usually replied that I'll let him know (He's a Navy Submarine vet) but that the hat I was wearing is mine... and I get a shocked look.

Yes, women can and still serve in the military!!!
Living in a military town I am so used to seeing Camo Everything... We got Airforce, Navy, Marines... and a big sub base... Those sub guys are certifiable... at least the ones I met... :gig

Yep Yep Yep.... hes got to learn to soften up a little....

Indeed ! Interesting story. Father bailed when he was very young. Went 2 years to community college, 2 years to a major school, law school - all on his own dime, passed bar on first try. He's had to be a 'control freak' to accomplish all of that. We'll work on lowering the level of seriousness. The dog did like him - that's a good sign.

You just can't sweat the small stuff.

I've been mistaken by guys as a lesbian because I'll meander into a bar with camo hat, Carhartt jacket and my muck boots on...and kick their butts on the pool table. I just smile and say, "Nope...you just got your butt kicked by a camo clad, guy-loving chick." Lol

I've also been hit on by lesbians because of my same attire. I politely say, "I'm flattered, but I bat from the other side of the plate."

No hard feelings or anything. It's all good. As long as no one is nasty about the misconceptions...

I get that sometimes too... But I've been a switch hitter... But I tell people I'm a gay guy living in a woman's body.
Told a gay friend of mine that he was so lucky. He looked at me confused, and I told him he got all the joys and pleasure of being with a guy and none of the PMS. He laughed so hard!!!

I have her boarded right now but when i move back home I will bring her home with me. She loves people and will pester you... IF I sit on my walker in the corral she tries to move me around....LOL

I have lain on horses backs and watched the clouds go by... I have had horses now for fifty years.... Been thrown off too. part of the whole process unfortunately.

If there is a therapudic riding program in your area you might just drop in and see if they need volunteers... Learn how to brush and work with them on the ground... just touching them gives you a profound sense of the world... I so miss my girl..

Here is the last picture taken of us about a month or two ago.

I rarely wear my Navy hat because I get embarrased with all the thank you's, but I do collect my 10% discount at Lowes!

This thread is like the island of misfit toys, all a bit different yet all have something to offer and a good fit somewhere.....

I get embarrassed by it as well... most of the time I wear it to my Equine Therapy program... but every once in a while I feel like a hat and my Stetson would get more looks in CT than a ball cap.

I LOVE this thread so glad I found it, agree totally with person who posted about being "too thin" I've been horriblely thin my whole life, when I was 14 they finally diagnosed me as a Juv Insulin Dept Diabetic who knows how long I went undiagnosed. My mother is a type 2 diabetic so we already ate healthy at our home. I thought things would get better for me after they got me on insulin but nope turns out it wasn't just the diabetes that kept my weight so low I also have a metalized that is 5 times too fast for my body. So yea I have heard it all eat more, you Can't be a diabetic you are too thin, No I didn't bring you a diet soda you are too thin I brought you a good natural o' coke to get some weight on you, I KNOW you said you didn't want any dessert to be polite since you are soo thin but I cut you this huge piece cause a dessert once and in while won't hurt you. Yea so finally hit my mid 30s and my condition corrected itself soo happy that I no longer get a bruise for a month when I touch my arm to door. But yea the years and years of hearing all these things plays hell with your frame of mind. So giving out Free Hugs and also have an open ear for anyone needing to vent or just be reminded you all ARE beautiful NO MATTER WHAT anyone said.

Our 17yr (daughter) was born a son also just came out to my hubby and I a couple months ago that she feels that she is a girl in a boy body. Sadly when my blood family was told this we got tons of THAT CAN'T BE right he Never played with dolls, wanted to rock a baby or dress up..ect and we told my family a simple statement that regardless of what you THINK or Feel about this ISN'T open for discussion you can either love her as much and in the same way you loved "him" and treat her as a granddaughter just as you treated him as a grandson or you can have no place in her life your choice.
