I have been having trouble with mosquitos here and now have my first chicken with fowl pox. I am going to vaccinate the rest of the flock but when I bought the vaccine from the feed store they were out of the applicators. I went to every feed store vet around here but no one had the applicator. One vet told me to just use a sewing machine needle in the place of the applicator. I just don't see how that is going to give the appropriate dose because the applicator has grooves in it to give a dose of 0.01ml per prick. Has anyone had to substitute a needle for the pricker?

thanks Oregon Blues. I'm with you on that. I called some towns farther out today and was able to find one, thank goodness. Now I've got to work up the courage to go out there and prick them all. It looks like a painful prick the applicator has really big "prickers". My poor babies... but at least they won't have to worry about getting the pox after this.
