one of my 3 year old hens( a New Hampshire Red) suddenly died yesterday, found her in the coop in the afternoon. Very healthy appearing and plump the day before. Had her since 2 days old. Did have a production red that was thin, pale comb, and died a week before after I separated her from the flock of 6, but none of the others seem ill. I have not wormed them this year. I put apple cider vinegar in their drinking water several times a week, which I have read keeps parasites at bay. Any ideas. I really don't know why the first one died, I actually thought that the other hens were keeping her from eating.

How hot did it get where you are yesterday? We are now having to be careful not to let our large hens over heat. We are getting up into the high nineties, and the air is dry. Last year we lost one to heat stroke.
We use a mist and a fan for lowering the temps in their run.

oh, and welcome to BYC. Sorry you had to join on such a sad note.
