Thanks for your information!2x aart ... What are you feeding? You could try making a mash of chick starter/grower, it will help get some water in it. What kind of "oil"? Why are you squeezing the vent? Suspecting it's constipated? You say it's been healthy, what makes you suspect it's constipated?
Now that I read back in this, it DOES sound like I was squishing poor Ned- that must have been of great concern to others. I know it would have been to me if I read it as worded! Thanks...did you say you were squeezing your chicks to make them poop? sounds painful for them
This was quite a picture while we were doing the coffee cup... you had to be there! lolAlso...they don't need grit if they are only eating chick feed.
Warm water soak his butt in a coffee cup for a while.
How sad is that- I didn’t even know they needed to be vented! I will crack the top lids open so it comes out quickly. He was constipated again this morning but I gave him mash with a few drops of mineral oil and he went right away. Now if I could only figure out why he is scratching all the time and no one else is. I’m wondering if he’s reacting to being handled, getting tiny bits of oil on his feathers or if he has some type of bug. What next? My poor little guy-All systems GO! Feed away!
After my chick became constipated, I discovered that the nipple water bottle I was using had not vented and the chick was having problems getting water. You might examine your water setup and be sure the chicks are all able to get the water they need, although dehydration is only one reason for constipation.
I just flipped the lid up and I think that should make everything rush out.Me 3x .... I too learned that the container needs to be vented, you'd think it would be in the instructionsI drilled a small hole about an inch below the rim, sure made a difference
