I"m reading to build a first aid kit for my flock cheifly I am wanting to make a concoction of stuff like electrolites vinegar, b complex d3 etc probly use the vinegar as the "carrier" is there anything else that should be in a "elixir" that could be dropped right onto a chickens tongue if they are found inexplicably lethargic. breathing hard etc. kind of a do all first step to try while you investigate further to try to figure out whats wrong. This is coming after just losing angel baby. the sweet lil cochin batam in my thumbnail. the very day after I took that pic and posted it here I found her in the mentioned condition I held her and worked with her all day try ing to save her was up until 2am at that point I had done everything I could but she died shortly thereafter as my wife found her at about 6 dead.

Now I don't expect a magic elixer to solve all ills. But I'd like a good first step ready to go so I don't have to run around trying to get things ready one handed. (i know silly but I have a hard time putting them down when they are like that) does anyone have any such recipe to share. Any do's or don'ts when mixing things I kinow better than to leave anything mixed with vinegar but could have a powdered mix I can quickly mix and dose. TIA

I'm sorry to hear about your loss:hugs

I don't know about making an elixir, hopefully someone may have a recipe for you.

Personally, I would keep either Poultry Nutri-Drench or Rooster Booster Poultry Cell on hand. (most of the time I have both)
Both can be given as a direct dose at 1cc per 3 pounds of weight.

yup both of those were mentioned often enough in what I read last night that they are in my amazon cart already. Thanks for the response and the hugs. It was pretty heart tearing she went from "fixing" my hair and singing back to me (Id singsong her name and she'd trill back) to fighting for her life. Hope it's ok for big ol' boys to cry. She was so so sweet. She was the last baby to hatch in the bantam hatch I did and she needed attention from the start I had to help her poop a couple times and just lots of help. And she had the sweetest disposition and was always ready to be picked up and loved on.

Sounds like she was a sweetheart. It's tough to lose one like that.

I noted somewhere that somebody was talking about cough syrup and specified no alchohol. I was thinking a watered down vodka or somthing might be just the thing as it tends to help things enter the blood stream faster. Is there some specific reason a tiny bit of alchohol is a bad idea?
