Sumatra Thread!

Mine don't lay anything in the winter, but do great in spring and summer. Mine will also go broody and who ever wrote that piece for the hatchery never held one before, because they don't have black skin and bones.

mine are mostly really good layers. 5 to 6 eggs a week and yes all winter long from many of them. A lesser amount in the winter, but yes eggs from them all winter long.
same here on them, once they start they LAY! But no, like the other, not much over the winter. Mine are just starting, but they lay haevily til it gets cold again.

My Pet Chicken isnt even a hatchery either, they are just a drop ship broker. Doubt they have ever even seen one outside of a picture. All they do is take order , at extremely high prices and send the order to a farmer who ships it.. haha, bunch of the newer .com places are nothing more than that any more

I hate to quote myself but I am surprised it worked! I just got a new smart phone and uploaded these on my phone. The first pic is of the dun rooster with some of the black hens (he is covering about 15) and the second picture shows his color a little better. His comb is still a little red because he was cooped up all winter but it should darken up some. Also, in the top pic you can see a khaki bantam sumatra project bird. I found him at a traders place and figure I'll use him on the smaller black hens after we get done with the main hatches

I'll quote you again Michael haha

love that khaki bantam!
The duns I have from you are looking great, and VERY black faced. Been out since you sent them to me and darkened right up. Looking forward to working with them this year
