Sumatra Thread!

thanks! I don't seem to get a lot of pullets that are as good as my cockerels that is why I have more of the cockerels than I do the pullets but I hope this year I get some good pullets. is your female line better than your males line or is your males line better than your females? some years I will get some good pullets. but most years it is the cockerels that have the better qualities.my pullets don't have very big heads I prefer them to have bigger heads because they seem to place higher than the ones with smaller heads.
It really depends on the year, because last year I had an amazing Blue Cock that won 2 Champion Jr LF and 1 JR RIS and the best pullet last year always place reserve JR LF and and Reserve JR AOSB behind my rooster. But this year my best LF and BT are both pullets. My LF pullet won BIS out of 92 birds at my last show! and here are some pics i took they would not stop moving!

Very Nice!

I like that hen a lot she is very nice! the roosters nice but I like the hen the best. how yellow is her feet? the ones I got from Tom Kernan have yellow feet but they are a pale yellow the other ones I have have a oreange yellow color. I hatched out some chicks out of the hens I got from tom and they have a good yellow oreange colored bottoms I guess they got their sires gene. I will have to get some pics of them so you can see.

I never assumed you were angry. My point to you was simply that you might consider the possibility that your interpretation of the Standard wasn't spot-on. But apparently your confidence level doesn't allow you to consider the possibility you might be wrong but rather that anyone who differs from you must be wrong.
Well we just need to agree to disagree and just drop the subject. That's why I say people have different opinions, does it make it right or wrong? or just different? To me, not about right or wrong, its interpretation, if discussion makes people read and not just go by what someone tells them, then its all good, Discussion opens minds usually not closes them.

it will not let me see it!

Hey, We just joined and found this thread. We are have just recently acquired our first chicks and hen - a black Sumatra. Long story but she is the most wonderful bird, very gentle with the little chicks (and kids!) and lays lovely eggs quite regularly. She is an older hen apparently and we are so thrilled with her I would love to get another Sumatra. The only site that seem to have chicks seem to require that one purchases a minimum of 5 - straight run - does anyone know where we could get female chicks? I don't mind if they are a bit older - we live in the city and can't have a rooster and it just seems wrong to run the risk of getting a male and selling a Sumatra rooster to someone who will put him in the pot.... Any advice would be welcome! Thanks.
