I'm in the same spot as you. Waiting for a few to finish regrowing feathers, mostly my roosters. My dun rooster got in a fight with the silkie roosters through the fence, and managed to break all 6 of his spurs off, so waiting to see how they come in along with the nubs of the others he's got (he has spots for 7 on each leg and only just turned 2 years old, so it'll be interesting to watch). I still have to cull my youngsters. I know which ones are being culled, just have to get it done. Had a very wet spring and summer and I think this played a role in the hatching rates, so I still have some that are only a couple months old that I will have to go through come spring.
Do you mind telling me what a closed band is? Is it the type used for NPIP? I've seen a few different types of leg bands and all could be removed, just might not be usable after it was removed.
The bands I am thinking of are seamless aluminium or plastic bands that are slipped over the juveniles foot for it to grow into. As the bird's foot grows the band cannot be removed unless you put a hacksaw to it. One cannot band adult birds with seamless bands, only juveniles.
Here is where I buy my bands, it's Canadian, but the information might interest you and you could probably find an American equivalent. I hope it's not a problem to post the link here:
