Sumatra Thread!

Im going to try and get more spurs in my youngsters. I have 2 breeding Roos, one has maybe 5-6 spurs and the other only has 2 on each leg but much bigger.

This was maybe 5 months ago and they're even bigger now!

They're a little tired from duking it out so I rolled them over haha

So this guy was purchased as a Thai gamefowl, but he has a lot of Sumatra in him (including multiple spurs and yellow on the bottoms of his feet). He's on a leash in the second pic, I took him for a walk. Him and the girl purchased with him (also has a lot of Sumatra) enjoy escaping the pen. The girl likes getting on the roof of the coop and house.

I bought bought them as day old chicks, so I had no way of knowing what their real breed was. I'm still happy with them.

All my Sumatra girls went broody on me this spring, but they were VERY sneaky about it and just disappeared into the long grass, and them showed up with babies Such good mommas though. They are ultra protective, they attack anything within eyesight of their babies...kinda funny to watch them take off after the barn cats ( who know their roles and have never ever touched a chicken) But the moms chase them around the barn pecking and screaming! We had a weasel issue this summer, and lost 17 babies in two nights, but not one of the Sumatra chicks! I have a ton of Roos, so the chicks wont be pure Sumatra's ( although I do have two roosters of those as well) So I'm excited to see what their final feathering looks like...Right now they are black with lots of white spots ( black legs and face though)...

That's an awesome color, I've never seen it other than in pics. I know you've posted about them before but I don't remember, do they breed true yet? Do you think it will be a recognized color?

The duns will never breed true, just because the dun gene works just like blue. They breed true to type and everything else but when you breed 2 duns together you get 25% black, 25% khaki, and 50% dun. We have mated duns together in the past but now we do black x dun matings.
