I'm happy to ship fertile eggs. Chicks are a local pickup deal only with me. Everyone who see's my Sumatra's tells me they are so much nicer than Hatchery birds. Well....I knew that!
I know this sumatra is not show quality (hes not from exhibition or hatchery lines). Does he look like there may be recent outcrossing in him? Because of his developed wattles, lack of multiple spurs and his comb doesnt look pea I wonder if he may be 75%? Or could these all be "offtype" traits collected on one bird? I am going to do some project work with him and want to keep track of everything.
he's for the most part pure, well over 75%, he just has some DQ's going on for a show bird it all, happens all the time , he's pretty much just not show quality is all.
Cool. I imagine the sumatra is like alot of foriegn breeds that come to the US. We look at an importation of a new breed, pick the characteristics we like and call it a standard. Doesnt mean those with the other traits arent pure. I know that happened alot in pigeons. Fantails and Indian fantails came from the same stock, just some liked clean heads and feet and others liked crests and muffs.
That's exactly right. A bird wih flaws to the standard doesnt mean by any means that it's not pure to the breed, just not an outstanding representaion of it.
It's the same with people, you have pretty ones and ugly ones too, LOL

The male look ok in the first pic, However in the second pic it looks like he has a "break" where his tail and back join. it is supposed to be a smooth transition from back in to the tail. His tail to me is not quite full and flowing enough for me personally. His comb and face in the last pic is way to red and his comb seems to have a curve ?it does not look like the correct shape for a pea comb I dont know if its just the pic or if its actually crooked ?
So technically you could show him and do ok at a small county show or something but he would not be able to compete at a large show with lots of competition.
the comb is not crooked I dont like the tail either
I purchased it a one of those poultry show im working on my sumatras to get a better quality.
thank you for your advice
there is a lot of bad quality sumatras out there.
I had a tragedy my good quality sumatra rooster got killed in its cage.
