Sumatra Thread!

Hey there, I saw this in the breed ID section, and I still think this looks like a black Sumatra. Am I way off? Thanks for looking!

Gee--you should see some of the ones showing around here. Make mine look like bantams!

The standard calls for them to be lighter, large fowl--but I swear these hens were 8lbs and the rooster, at least 10! The judge told me mine could "use some size." Of course, this is the same judge that placed a hen with WHITE earlobes as "Best of Breed."

sounds like the judge doesn't have a clue. I don't show my birds, as I don't see the point in it, but I know what a Sumatra should look like.

Talking about huge Sumatras ,I went to poultry show on college station here in Texas
I saw different size of sumatras this obsessed guy with Sumatras, he was showing some black ones,nice body perfect tail
Face were dark as a cenami chickens.
But I was sad cos he doesn't sell birds.
I bought a rooster there but nothing to compare to the line i just described

My Sumatras are hatching, my Sumatras are hatching!

The cock bird is Dun colored and the hens are Black and Blue, here is the first baby that made it, I'm not sure what color it is. When I first saw a peek of it under it's "momma" I thought it was Blue, but after seeing it closer I'm not so sure. It's a very silvery almost metallic looking gray. Sort of like a Lavender chick but with no yellow down.

A second chick has hatched, it was much darker but still wet so I'm not sure what color it is either.

platinum. Dun to blue will give you some of them, dun will be smokey tan colored chick, black and blue obvious

That's amazing! I was hoping for a Dun at least.

Do you have any pictures of Platinum colored adult birds?

Or does anyone else?

That is a stunning chick, Jeremy! Didn't realize you were getting into Sumatras. We discovered that our Tiny has Sumatra in her somewhere.
