Summer 2012 Granny "Square" Swap (sign ups closed)

I miscounted and had to fix my oops but they are done and on the way tomorrow, I am so sorry! I just teach math, doesn't mean I can count!

Seriously made me laugh out loud!

I had to get mine done b/c I was so excited about the next swap w/ the fall colors since my house decore is fall colors.  I changed it over to that a couple of years ago after a trip to the Grand Canyon.

Love the Grand Canyon! One of my favorite places on the planet. *Not that I've seen much of the planet mind you.* I have family in AZ and when I was a kid we would stop there at least twice a year. Took my Hubby there after we were married and he had never been there before! Imagine living in the west for 40 years and never seeing the Grand Canyon!!! :th

Tedious tucking, tagging & bagging. Mine will be in the mail tomorrow. I'm sure yours & Luna's will be complete by the time my swaps reach you.  :)

Yep, I only have 1 more applique to do, which will be done by lunch (hopefully there will be no big distractions before then), then I will go help Luna with hers. She is doing 6" basic grannys so it should be easy to knock these out in a day or 2.

I love those colors too!!!  A lot of my house decor is in earthy fall colors as well.  :)

My house is definitely earth tones mixed with fall colors. I love the warm colors. Makes me feel all cozy when I come home.

Haha! No worries. They should get here in plenty of time.

Do you teach math specifically or general ed? I always planned to go on to teach math at the University level but by the time I got my second degree I was so burned out and soooo tired of being poor (I worked my way through college so money was always tight and you can only eat so much Top Ramen) that I decided to teach elementary school instead. I started out subbing at elementary schools and JR & High schools for Math and Science (the only 2 subjects I'm cleared for at that level). Then I got a great offer to teach science at my son'd grade school. LOVED that job!!! Then Hubby moved us to Reno. Nevada doesn't believe in paying their teachers enough to pay for gas and lunch. It just didn't pay to teach here. :(

Just curious. I love to hear of women teaching math or any of the sciences. Not just math.

*I wonder now if I'm rambling just to procrastinate on crocheting. OK off to get my work finished.*

I have hiked down the canyon twice now, I think this last time will be my last time! It was 20 years between hikes and trust me when I say the 20 years made a big difference!!!!!! My husband had never been either, we had a wonderful time, I'd like to go the the north rim next time I've never been there, both times I've been to the south rim.

I did well in math when they had me adding, subtracting, multipying, and dividing NUMBERS, not so much when they started throwing letters in too, then even less when they started talking about imaginary numbers!

The one good thing about math is they understand what a rule is, unlike English who confuse "rule" w/ "suggestion". Science was my favorite subject by far.

My swaps are all tucked, bagged & tagged and all packed up ready to be mailed out.

All I have to do is see how much return mula to slip in my package when I get to Post Office before I seal it up. As soon as I can finish up some stuff around here they will be my first stop.

LOL! Yes I think that's why I always liked math and science. It has specific rules without a bunch of exceptions unlike language arts. My Spanish teacher used to say "I don't understand. Your vocabulary is great, your pronunciation is fantastic but your sentence structure STINKS! Why can't you just take the rules of English and reverse them?"... "Ah", I said, "Now this makes sense. I don't understand the rules of English either." lol Even my students corrected my English now and then! That's probably why they let me teach science full time.

I'm not surprised you like the sciences. Even your crochet has a touch of the engineer in it. I have been to every one of the look outs at the Grand Canyon except the most Northern one that is very hard to get to. I've heard it's not as spectacular but I still want to see it. My fav is the southeast lookout but it is always packed with people! Still worth it though. When I was a kid we always went to the southwest entrance. The one with the donkey trailhead. I almost slid off that trail once when I ignored the signs and decided to head down anyway... in the snow. Seriously scary. It is a very slippery trail when covered with ice and snow. DUH

Yes the Grand Canyon is must see.

The swap is so much fun right now. I'd be grateful if someone posts pictures of what you receive and/or what you make.

Math? An afghan is greater than the sum of its squares.

I love the swaps. They are soooooooooo much fun!!! I promise to post pics of my pretty treasuries when they arrive. I'll keep you posted on what I make to add to the project. Most likely an afghan.

Oh boy.... crochet afghan math....forget it!

I don't think anyone ever post a pic of what they made w/ last year's Fall Swap. Hmmm.... I should inquire about that.

Edited to add that my swaps went out in the mail today.

So true! Can't quantify the love that goes into these things can ya?

I tried to get pics today of all the squares I've received so far and they came out terrible! :( I didn't want to take them out of the bags cause I was afraid I would get them mixed up and the light kept glaring off of the plastic. I couldn't see the pretty squares. You gals are gonna be so thrilled with what you get though.

I can't wait to put that one together! Its exciting! Oh and even more exciting...took dd to prenatal clinic today and her ultrasound was great. The baby has gained, from 3lbs14oz up to 5lbs 6oz.
Hard to believe(sarcastic tone)...stop mom from hurling for 6 months and the baby gains weight! I'm still a bit peeved by it all if you couldn't tell. Anyway, baby and dd are doing good, she only has 4 or so weeks left and even if she delivered in 2 weeks I think she'll be fine. Ahhhh, long day. Now I'm going to work on my fall swap squares. Have a great evening!
Cathy
