Summer 2012 Granny "Square" Swap (sign ups closed)

Kathy this is just gorgeous! Fantastic work!!!!! I am sooooo impressed!!!!

Truly... I cannot wait to get this thing together. It started as a SWAP. When I got the squares back (28 of 32 teams plus the one I made since there were 3 that dropped at the last moment), of the 28 I received, there were only 7 that I did not have to do anything to and only 2 more that were great squares, the right color but just needed something added to symbolize the team they were made for. I have had to replace all the remaining ones as they did not meet my (or hubby's) standards. Needless to say, I am no longer participating in any SWAPs with that group.

The good side is that I have had a couple of people that have expressed interest in purchasing one of these afghans if I could do another done. Since I have had to replace so many of them or bought something to embellish them with, I have enough that could make more. Because of embellishing a lot of them with fleece, there wouldn't be two exactly the same either. And... I have been doing each square a different pattern so have had the chance to learn a lot of different ones while making it.

I didn't do these with the afghan stitch. I just did them in single crochet changing colors as needed. :) The afghan stitch, when I tried it, seemed to me to be a lot like knitting in the aspect that it takes forever to see your results. I stopped knitting when I learned to crochet because I am a "results" kinda girl. LOL
That is cool b/c it looked so much like the afgan stitch, and I bet it would be easier just single crocheting, and I know I remember how to do that! lol

The afgan stitch always struck me as a hybrid between knit and crochet, not as easy as crochet, but not as tedious as knit.

Mine are still coming together. I just took a part time job on top of teaching and its pushed everything else back. But! Hopefully here soon they will be done and in the mail. Next few days at least.

I was hoping to get mine out this morning but didn't happen. I am still sewing in tails. DGD was supposed to dance today at our Annual Apple Farm Open House and dance fundraiser but it has rained all day. We had a dance floor set up outside, bbq grill, apple sling shot, cider pressing, hay rides, horse back rides, apple picking, etc. *sigh* We went and made a good effort but finally gave in and came home, I am drenched and frozen right to the core!! Yuck, I am not excited about our impending cold/snow. Every year older I get, my tolerance of the weather drops considerably. Having fibro probably has lots to do with it. Soooo, now I'm going to put fleece pants on and curl up with an afghan and my crocheting for the afternoon. Hope everyone has a great day! Will check in later.

Hoo Boy! We are finally settling down here. The walk was yesterday and it was just wonderful! So many people came out to show their support! Hubby's speech came out great!!! He was in such a hurry to start the walk though that the news crews couldn't find him to interview him but the Alzheimers Assoc. folks stepped in and that was great because they know a lot more about the cause than we do!

We had a fantastic morning walking around the lake with the kids and grand kids though. It was a super special time for us all! The grand kids took turns riding in the wheelchair with me and the kids complained (laughingly) that Dad was leaving them in the dust.

A ton of folks came up to us while walking to say how much they appreciated my hubby's speech. A lot of folks our age were so thrilled to hear that this disease has not meant the end of working and having a life! Some are younger, like us, and have been putting off testing because of fear. They said that DH's speech has encouraged them to go get the testing now! I was just so proud I could've popped! It was a day we won't forget for a very long time!

Kid's have all just left and we are very tired but still sad to see them go. It was so much fun having a house full of kids again and the grand kids were so thrilled to see us and the puppies, of course! lol I made sure to count them all to be sure nobody had snuck a puppy into the luggage as they all kept threatening to do! hahaha Glad to see everyone here is doing well. So happy your daughter is back home Cathy! So looking forward to seeing the rest of all your beautiful squares!!!

I know, I know. I still owe pics! They will be here soon.

I didn't get finished yet, I've been doing and redoing grades all week and finally got them in just before the deadline at 5 today! I probably won't mail them until Monday, but mine and Jessica's will be in the same box. I wanted to get them there early but it doesn't seem to be in the cards for me.
NP. Monday is just great. :)
I really hate that I don't get any notification for the thread... I get so caught up in other stuff I am doing and forget to come check on the chickens --- oh, and the swap. :) Sunny, can you please send me a PM so I can ship my squares. I will get them out on Monday...

Got to run... will check back later tonight. Hope everyone is having a great day!
Monday is right on time! Since today's the 30th and a sunday, the squares are due to be mailed on Monday so you're right on schedule.

'S OK. There are a couple of folks running a little late. Today is supposed to be the day we finish up with Monday being the date to mail - but these things always seem to run behind. Life can really get in the way of crochet time!

I have Jessica's squares, they sure are pretty! Mine are almost completed!
Cool! Can't wait to see them.
