Fellow Blockers, we have about 2 months when this swap is due. Lets work on keeping on target this swap. we are consistently missing the due dates and I'm just as guilty. So if you have any problems please let me know. We understand life happens and we don't want any drops we just want to really try and stay on target.
Thanks
Kat

I've just rejoined the living. My feet still hurt. We are very encouraging to all quilters. At our fun day we had a lady with learning disability who has only just taken up quilting and she is going to be really good. She has an excellent design eye and just lacks experience on the sewing machine like any beginner. Having said that, she was doing free machine quilting! We also had a ten year old boy who joined us from time to time (Rosie's son) who is a seasoned quilter. The majority were silver haired recycled teenagers! Cknldy, do a couple of block swaps here and then, when you go to join a local group you can tell them that you are a member of the International group, BYC and started your quilting journey with them. They won't know what BYC means. Must tell you that Rosie's son said to me just before lunch that he was going home for a while to rest up, have a lie down, get a bit of quiet etc!!!! He came back refreshed in the afternoon.
Recycled teenagers out lasted a real teenager,

where are the pics of your hard work?

He isn't even a teenager yet, he's only 10!
The ladies thought it hilarious when he asked if he could cycle home as he needed to " relax for 30 minuets " !!!

Good news folks, I've started the blocks for this swap and they are the sort that can be finished in a trice so I reckon the English ones will all be on their way to Georgia next week so they will arrive well before the deadline. I'm doing brick block - no triangles!

Have a problem at moment with putting photos on this site. I've lost the little icons etc.

I have the fans done, just have to add the flying chickens and a border for size. I've sold all of the rhode island red chicks from my last hatch. The russian orloffs (14) weren't for sale but when a buyer asked what they were he wanted a few. I just can't resist getting people interested in more than just the production layers so I sold him 4 russians! He even complimented my simple outdoor brooder set-up and wants a phone call when my daughter has silkies available. I love summer but for the first time I'm finding myself waiting for winter to quilt more:) will work on the blocks for this one this weekend.

Well we are almost about to wrap up another wonderful swap (green/white). That leaves this swap and going with tradition it is time to think of starting another swap. Any ideas? The new swap would be due Oct.15, wow has this year really flown by. So color, block design or do we want a random swap. The green/white blocks really turned out pretty, what about maybe blues or do we need to do pinks? I'm just throwing ideas out there and if you suggest a block design please remember our members who are not very advanced.

I've been thinking about this and waiting for the invitation.

Does everyone have enough blocks for their fall/chicken block quilts? I was thinking about perhaps making smaller blocks which combined would make a total block size of 12.5 inches, unfinished.

For example: please ignore the colors as they obviously don't go together at all. I was just pasting quilt blocks in to give you an idea of what I'm trying to say.

In this first example, the largest piece is 8" (finished) and all the others are 4" finished for a total of 12" finished block size.

Or you could do two 6x12 blocks.

Or a 6x12 and two 6x6 blocks.

I know a lot of you had a previous fall/chicken block swap and did it again to get more blocks. I'm just wondering if you have enough and if you want them all to be 12" blocks. Me, I would love to have more of these blocks as I've only been involved in one and don't have anywhere near enough blocks to make a nice lap quilt.

Doing it this way is making more blocks but they would probably mostly all be accompaniment blocks... nothing fancy, just simple fillers in fall colors and maybe a chicken here and there.

So, what do you think?

Lacy Blues- those are very pretty.

I am not a constant participant so I will not impose my preferences but wait and see what everyone decides before committing to join. Thanks for letting me do this one with you. I still can't post pics so until then its a simple square in squares pattern done in green swirls, purple dragonflies and a pretty multi-color that resembles a peacock feather for the center.

I'm easy! My only worry would be that the less experienced quilters may struggle to keep blocks accurate as there will be more seams.
On one of our swaps could we do "strawberries & cream" red, green and neutrals with or without strawberry fabric?
And it would be nice to do a Christmas quilt and I have a heap of blue scraps to use up so we need to do a blue one as well!!
