Sunflower Chickens

Great coop Renee looks great. I am still working on getting my new chicken pen done. Seems that all my projects are moving at a snail pace. Hope everyone is staying cool in this hot weather.

My dogs found a baby possum this morning I think it and mommy are living under my shed. Any ideas how to get them to move, I live in town and can not shoot them which I don't want to do just have them find another place to live instead of my backyard. I am not sure what the Dog pound would do if I trapped them. Any ideas to get them to move would be great. Thanks.

Be sure to wait till the heat breaks to transport your birds. My sister does a lot of work with 4-H'ers and in their county there were 12 birds that died in transport to their fair. None were lost at the fair... just in transport.

Air conditioning then right into the heat is not a good thing, either.

Have a duck question today. I don't remember exactly when I got my ducklings, but they're enough big now that two have gotten the curly male tail feathers. I want to be able to turn them out into the yard some but haven't clipped their feathers yet. Are they old enough at say 5-6 months?

Hi Carol Ann,
I've had my ducks out in my fenced in yard for some time now. Not sure if you're worried about them flying away? Or something else, but they should be plenty big to forage, unless you have predators.

LOl after rereading my post I'M not sure what the question was! I want to turn my 7 four mo old ducks out in my yard on the days I'm home and wondering if they're liable to eat my petunias and other annuals. My chickens used to get to free range in the evenings until they scratched all the mulch, rock and half the flowers out of my flower beds. Now they have a large fenced yard to go to in the evenings. Now I want to give the ducks a chance. I'll clip their wings first.

Oh, I think it's hit and miss; if they decide they like an area, they will drill holes and destroy everything around it. Best to fence off any areas you want left alone. I love my ducks, but man, they are destructive!
