Sunflower Chickens

In good news, I just ordered 300' of hardware cloth for $110 TOTAL!!! There's more available if anyone wants any!

PM me for the fella's email address- the company is selling this discontinued size and putting the cash in the employee Christmas fund! I think a 100' roll of this height would cost about that much alone...woohoo!!

I'm meeting the guy next week, so anyone who doesn't want to go to Leavenworth to get theirs, I can pick it up and meet you later. PM me.

btw, GeoKan, that was the best notice to drop on us, ever!! I can't believe the deal.

For those who missed it, here it is:

No, I'm sad to report we still haven't gotten any. It sprinkled last evening for about 5 minutes but didn't even make the sidewalk wet.

Yep, that's how I feel.

I just posted this to Consolidated Kansas but wanted to get it on here too. I was reminded about the niacin deficiency in ducks. I think what I'm feeding them is Purina Flock Raiser, but I'll have to rummage the bag from my garage to be certain. I got what the man working at Orscheln's said he feeds his ducks. If they need niacin I need to know how to give it. Only my one duck seems to be having any problem, and he/she is a bigger breed and growing pretty fast. I'll post pics when I am able.

I bought 7 ducklings at Orscheln a little over two weeks ago. Hatchery Choice. One was all yellow, a little bigger than the others. Man do ducks grow fast! Well this one seems to do more sitting than the others and always. In the last week it has been moving around "on it's knees" (so to speak) and then when it stands seems to be having a little trouble getting around. We wonder if it's having growing pains because it's growing so fast. It does eventually walk normal but not for long periods when I am out there watching. I'll post pics later when I can figure out this new pc.

Being a new egg and all, I thought I should make a big impression.

I just couldn't — in good conscience — let my fellow Kansas chicken lovers here, on BYC, not partake in such a good deal. I was just in Porters today and a 50-foot roll is $57

The wife will be making a run there tomorrow. I secured 2 rolls for $70. Just in time too! I'm in the process of building a run.

I didn't know about the Christmas fund. Maybe I should get 3 rolls.

Happy hardware clothing!

Any trail riders out there? A friend of mine runs a free riding program for at-risk children. The program is dependent on donations, of which she has gotten NONE this year

. All expenses are coming out of her own pocket, so she is offering trail rides as a fund raiser to raise money for the program this year. Here is the Craig's List ad (I wrote it up for her). I'd be happy to answer any questions you might have. Thanks!

Edited to add that, if you come on a Thurs -Sat evening, I will likely be there helping with the ride

I have a question...do you use it horizontally or vertically for your runs? Do you overlap it and then zip tie it together?

Thank you, Myabcs3

. My friend is just an awesome person who works, really, REALLY hard to do this for the kids. It's been her life's dream to have this ranch for the kids, and any way I can help her continue would be awesome. Thanks for sharing the information.

I haven't gotten to that stage yet, but in my mind's eye I envision attaching it horizontally. Kinda like making modular screen doors and securing them together.

I use to make hamster wheels out of this stuff as a kid. I using just hardwire cloth and a couple of coathangers.
