Has anyone heard of Superior Hatchery? I was told to check them out as I got some ducklings last year from Ideal and they turned out to be mutt ducks (as far as being what they said they were).. they are my babies but.......

Anyway I can not find them on the internet and thought maybe I am misspelling it or something. Thanks cj

Superior Farms has over a number of years assembled what we believe is the highest
quality of birds that can be found in individual breeds and varieties of poultry anywhere
in North America. In addition, Superior Farms has acquired the flocks of various well
known breeders as they have sold out their particular varieties of poultry after
breeding them in many cases during a lifetime. These additional flocks have been
added for one reason and that is each of those breeders had the ultimate in quality for
the breeds and varieties that they had bred shown over the years.

Superior Farms' commitment is a commitment to excellence in standard and bantam
chickens, waterfowl and turkeys. In addition, our commitment is providing birds that
will reproduce in a normal manner (without AI assistance) for the serious exhibitor,
breeder, hobbyist, 4-her or FFAer.

Each and every variety of birds has been carefully selected for this year's breeding in
order to produce the very best offspring in that particular variety. We are excited with
the tremendous quality of poultry that we have throughout the farm and look forward to
sharing the fruits of our efforts with our customers.

It is run by APA Judge Danny Padgett. But does anyone know what quality these birds are? Have been looking for some Buff Orpingtons for a youth member. Keep hearing "We cross our show quality with production quality to increase egg production". Just want her to have show quality without years of hard work to get there. We will help her stay with good quality, if we can startw ith good quality.

Superior Farms question

We are considering ordering some eggs from Superior Farms/Danny Padgett. Can anyone tell me a bit about their quality etc. I remember Danny being APA president a few years ago and a judge. Are their birds good, fair or poor quality for showing? Has anyone ordered from them? Am looking at Buff Orpington Large Fowl and possibly bantam.

Last year they had a really hard time getting chicks out and their egg packing was not reported to be great from fellow BYC members here. Danny is very nice over the phone and I think tries hard to, but I ended up getting a refund last year on my order. The birds I wanted wouldn't produce. I think considering the Ice Storm in OK that it may be best to contact Danny and see how they have faired.

They have been around for a few years now & have in the past had some production problems. opefully they have gotten on top of that.
Superior Farms shows their birds & they have done very well in shows they have attended.
Their flocks were assembled by purchasing birds from people who breed & show successfully. In some cases they bought out entire flocks. At least some of their stock was selected by an APA judge who did some buying for the.
They bought all of my large fowl Games & Andalusians. I know of several other people who sold them stock as well.
What they started with is far better than what typical hatcheries breed from & Danny Padgettis a knowledgeable breeder.
However, don't expect every chick they produce to be a show winner. No mating can guarantee that.

If you want show quality better to go with a breeder that specializes in that breed.

Unfortunately it seems that high quality Buff Orpingtons are few and far between. I think it may be because many people consider them 'boring'. They want to breed and show something more exotic in appearance. The market is flooded with poor quality hatchery birds.

Danny delivered to me at the Ohio Nationals 3 Buff Orps for a friend who sold them to me. I bet Jim he is going to the Arkansas show. You will not be able to miss him. A HUGE trailer sayin " Superior Farms ".
Nice guy, I paid him for his effort. And was very pleased with what I bought. Good luck.
