Looks like I have a ton of catching up to do ;)

My flock really wanted to make me feel crazy 2 days ago
I went in as normal and collected eggs
I found 12 eggs but only have 10 girls
I clean my pen nightly on my hands and knees picking up every poo and fluffing all the shavings so I didn’t miss an egg
The odd time I have got an extra one so somebody lays 2 but it gets better
An hour later I see nugget head to the duck house I go and check and she lays an egg
Wow 13 eggs in one day
Then I’m taking dasher to the class that’s hatching some eggs to show them a full grown duck
Everyone got to see her and back in the crate she went as we candles the eggs ti see how they are doing
Once done the kids looked in the crate to say goodbye and one kid says there an egg
Umm no way
But yes she laid an egg
14 eggs total on Tuesday morning
I have heard of them laying more than one egg per day and I am in the same situation. I have 9 Hens but got 5 eggs and the 2 Mallards are not laying, the 2 older Rouen are not and neither is the Mule Duck so someone is laying two in my flock. Lucky us!!!

So ever since i put the ducks outside, they dont like to be picked up. Is there anything i can do? I dont try and pick them up if they run away. Because it scares them
I don't have a good answer to this, my ducks really only like me when I'm giving them treats. Cuddles are not a thing my ducks do with me.

That’s pretty much the same with my crew
Only 2 of the 14 will stand still and let me pick them up
Even those 2 at times walk away 😂
It’s always on their terms
I only push it if one needs any medical attention and that I do in the duck house as it’s easier to corner to pick them up
Most will eat from my hands and all of them wag their tails when I talk to them so I know they really do like me
I spend lots of time around them
I can vacuum right beside them
I can mow my lawn and will need to stop to let them cross right in front of me
They trust I’m not going to hurt them

Thats insane!!
My dad just asked me if I'd consider moving abroad, said no. Asked why, I said because I have animals that I won't put through the stress of that transport, if even possible.
He responded with: "you won't find happiness if you base your world around ducks..."
I couldn't keep a straight face :lau

He's kidding right???
Why would I want a different world than this one! View attachment 3483971
And right you are :lau:lau

Oh my gosh 😂. Great pic!
is this why after i fill up their food and water bowl for the fifth time everyday they stand around and quack?🤣🤣
It's because they're wondering why it's not dirty :gig

I'm wondering the same. They always eventually get to that stage where even in the brooder they start to run away from your hand as you bend down to pick them up.

How did things start that way though? Did you spend a certain amount of time with them? Did you only pick them up as babies when they'd come to you?

One boy never runs from me
But he was a lone duckling we got at 8 days old as he would be joining my two older teen ducks
So he got spoiled as a baby
My other one hatched first a day before the others and imprinted on us not the hatch mates
Everyone else I held lots
Played with
Would sit in the brooder with them and they would jump all over me
Then they became teenagers and all of a sudden hated to be held
They would follow me all over but didn’t want to be picked up
My mom duck will let me pick her up if boys are chasing her she will run right to me
She knows mom will save her but that’s the only time she lets me pick her up 😂

Awww 😅. I'm really trying to get the most friendly ducks this year so I'm gonna try all of that. I love how right now, my ducks get scared away when I walk towards them, but my ducklings walk towards me when I get near them, I don't want it to change.
