Support Group for Abused Duck Keepers

I was wrong, it was more like two years ago that he was trying to murder me. Every day I was plagued with a golden menace biting at my ankles, weaving between my feet as I walked, tripping me, causing me to fall over constantly, dump food and water buckets, it was constant harassment.

I posted a a while back about this terror.

After Truffle hatched Sunbeam transformed into a sweet bashful boy. He still has some spiciness in breeding season but otherwise he’s pretty chill now. I don’t know what happened.
I know exactly how that happens and how you felt
My boy I hatched and gave all the attention to as a baby
We spoiled him
Then he hit hormone stage and my feet became his obsession
Every fall and winter he takes a break from trying to kill me
At one point I would have to walk around with a blue pool noodle
If he saw it he would run away
I use ti guide them to bed with the pool noodle
I guess he didn’t want to be put to bed
Yet he is my most tame and loving duck
Anyone can hold him
He will let me pick him up anytime
Each year gets better at breeding times
Last year I was able to wear sandals 😂
His brother never acted like that but he wasn’t held near the same amount
Germ was our very first baby we hatched
He was also born 40 some hours before the others
He imprinted on me where as the others imprinted on him
I learned my lesson
Don’t let a drake imprint on you 😂

Snuggles wheel chair is done
She isn’t fully extending her legs but that will take time
Once the leg braces come I think that will help

I’m coming on to report abuse of a duck
I always count heads every night but a few weeks ago we had -49 c temps
My birds weren’t going outside just in the coop and their outdoor room where feed and water is but fully enclosed
So I skipped counting for a few days
When I went to give extra bedding I noticed a duck stuck behind a bin in the coop the chickens would use to lay eggs
( chickens stayed in the duck coop over winter to help with body heat ) not sure how long she was there 1-3 days
She was not able to walk as one leg was in a weird position
Her eye was so swollen I wasn’t even sure if she had an eye in there
I rushed her in the house
Her eye looked injured like maybe a drake bit trying to mate. Or she scratched it trying to get out
I started her on polysprin eye drops and warm compresses
When the vet opened I took her in
By then her leg was back working but she wasn’t eating just drinking
My vet was able to pry the swollen lids enough to see there was an eye but no idea if it was injured too
Started her on Medicam for pain and swelling
Eye drops and tetracycline in case infection had set in
I took such good care of her
After 48 hours she was eating normal again and slowly started to see improvement in her eye
By day 7 all meds were done and she even laid me an egg
Day 8 hed eye was open with just a scab on the lower lid
I got bit and wacked by her wings daily
And now she runs away from me like I’m a predator when all I did was help her
They are so ungrateful 😂
She was one my broody hatched last august so she always thought I was the big bad guy
Pictures aren’t in order but first photo is now fully healed and all scabs gone and she can fully see from that eye

Our ducks are never grateful!! Has anyone ever had a duck that appreciated their efforts to care for them? Mine always start running away from me after I have treated them for foamy eye or bumblefoot. The only that didn't run away couldn't as he lost the use of his legs!! We just have to be saints and give our best because that is the right thing to do!!

I am so glad your girl made it!

I need to let everyone know that this duck -- the first one I rescued as a duckling and raised from being a little fluffy -- is again biting me this spring. It's every spring. It hurts. My shins and calves are black and blue. There is no mating bahavior. He just wants me to sit with him at my side and cuddle him. For hours. All day. Every Day.

But mom
Look at that face
How dare you not take hours a day to sit with him

He is certainly a handsome boy as muscovies go!! I wish I had time to sit around with him all day. The problem with is, his next demand is to be let into the house where he rightfully should be. He should not be outside in a duck house with ducks!!!
