Support Group for Abused Duck Keepers

Wow!! Congratulations! I'm so happy for you, terrified for me, though. I really hope I get a good hatch rate like you and Isadora. The problem is I have such a crappy china incubator that I usually get a 20% hatch rate. You both have the NR360, right? I love those, I just can't seem to save up enough money to buy one at TSC, especially now that they're $180 now
I have little giant ones
I seem to get good hatch rates although this batch was a lot of assists
My duck started this group then ditched the eggs and I had to take over
One baby fully did everything himself
A few I made safety holes then made a bit bigger after 24 hours and they did the rest
2 bruised the egg one I hatched the other is the one I misjudged and lost thinking he was in the air cell. The rest made the air cell but never external
They are all healthy and strong but ti big for their eggs
First 6 are up running like crazy
Eating and drinking every few hours
Great balance
Last 3 are getting fluffed up in incubator
2 could move but I don’t want the last baby lonely so I kept the other 2 with her

I’m having a sad day
Long story short my first ducks ever is daisy and her sister then peep
We lost Mia at about 7 months from eating a penny. Wasn’t found till after she was gone. I don’t even have Pennie’s so maybe something she dug up
I then hatched 5 babies from them
Unfortunately daisy has been her sons number one duck to mate along with peep
I have been keeping daisy / peep separated from the crew for months
I have been trying and trying to figure out how to make things work till today when I got a text from somebody I know looking for a adult drake
I took some time to think and decided beaker would go but I’m sending his sister too so he doesn’t get depressed at a new place alone
He will be the only drake abc now have 6 new ladies
But I’m sad 😞 I really love my ducks so much
But daisy needs to feel safe where she doesn’t get chased by both boys all the time
Peep will protect her and he can chase one boy away
I just feel like I’m letting them down sending them off
You're making a difficult, but good decision and considering all of the flock- you aren't doing anything wrong :hugs

Last baby is doing good
After this picture I moved the last 3 to the brooder

I know exactly how you feel. I had 4 big drakes that I had raised since they were only 2 days old. I loved them but my girls were taking a beating out of them. When I tried to separate 2 of them my biggest starting trying to mate with my other drake and was hurting him. I knew they had to go. I traded them for my four little Call Drakes and my Hens are so much happier. I also got a couple more girls in the deal. It's hard to let go but when you see the good results afterwards that helps. I hope you feel better soon about the situation. It takes time but it will come.
